Added audio of 5305 climbing Speeton bank with a railtour on 29th December 1982.

"Here is another one of John Tait's fantastic recordings, this time of Black Five,5305 powering up the 1 in 92 continuous grade from Bridlington to Speeton on the Hull to Scarborough line. 5305 passed the summit just beyond Speeton at a respectable 26mph with 10 coaches. Enjoy. "

In this 10 minute sequence we hear 60009 start the climb to Gleneagles at Dunning on the 1 in 121 gradient before "no.9" storms through Auchterarder on the continuous 1 in 100 gradient up to Gleneagles. Sounding a little off-beat 60009 does well to crest the summit at just over 30mph with load 13,almost 500tons hanging off the drawbar on a cold November evening in 1980.

    Recorded by John Tait

Only did the one trip with Number 9 in Scotland, Edinburgh to Aviemore in 1980/81. Sounded pretty lopsided on that run too. In fact at one stage she was as off beat as a knackered V2. Great climbs in both directions to Druimuachdar though.

Agree with you spamcan, did a run with no.9 in 1982, Waverley to Aberdeen and return, sounded awful, especially the return, more like a two cylinder with a bad cold, did the business though, but ran very late.

I'll upload the climb from Falkirk soon, that was very nearly not doing the business, seemed to slip on a wet/icy rail and beats all over the place as it gets going, still,it did the job!
