    The last trains: Alresford Station on 27th April 2025 nearing the end of the very successful Watercress Line Spring Steam Gala. The crew of visiting Tank 11456 chat with the station staff while they await the arrival of Ivatt Tank 41312 on the last train to Alresford.
    41312 rolls into view round the bend. 11456 then hauled the final service from Alresford, a mixed set shuttle to Ropley.

    Gala weekend - loco's fail, stock has to be sidelined, timetable changes inevitable. 11456 shouldn't have been on this train at Bishops Lydeard so short of water and coal, so needs must if the trains are to be kept running. What it is all about - people! P1080767.JPG

    Signalmen, isolated and remote from most human contact, like to tell themselves that they control the movement of trains.

    Guards, smug and pompous in their shiny uniforms, like to tell everyone else that they control the movement of trains.

    But drivers don't have to pretend, because they know that only they have the big red go stick in their hands ...
