Until it gets burnt-out, and then it's off to Booth's to make some money.

It may go but it may stay. The first / last train situation has been up for discussion and surely a 73 plus Vep would make the ideal stock? I know the old thing about Bluebell being all steam but surely it makes sense?

Well I can help the Bluebell increase their 3417 fundraising by a factor of nine: I've got a tenner in my wallet right now...

3417 is leaving East Grinstead today at lunchtime to go to Knights Rail Services at Eastleigh on loan, secure storage being one factor behind the move.

That's an interesting turn of events - I'm sure the WD boys will probably commandeer an undesiro and pay her a visit.. Also explains why they left the shoes on.

    The wonders of speculation eh!

I sincerely hope that all the doubters and axe-grinders who have been so critical of the Bluebell in this matter are now prepared to stand up and apologise; I think this proves that whatever the hardcore may think, the Bluebell Railway as a body is pragmatic and interested in railway preservation, not just steam at the expense of all else.

The Bluebell deserve a hearty round of applause; they have respcted in the finest way possible the significance of 3417 - by ensuring that she is kept somewhere that can maintain her and preserve her.

There are a good few broad smiles amongst certain SWT staff today. Come payday I know I'll be writing a cheque to the Bluebell. It's the least I can do.

And of course, should they ever need a 400-series driver at any point in the future....

This has to be one of the most bizarre stories I have heard. So the whole thing was just a ruse to get a free connection to the mainline... :-k

Should just have arrived at Eastleigh unless she got held up anywhere.

as she is on loan to knights rail services, is a working future possible looks like she will be at the eastleigh show then its the best possible outcome, the unit has a better future, the bluebelle wont have the problem of a picture of the unit tagged and with every window broken screaming out at them from every railway magazine .
Did she work down to eastleigh under her own power or was 109 dragging her again what will happen though when the blue belle do get through to east grinstead , will it go back, or will they sell it , which would be the most likily out come

400's need special dispensation to be driven on the main line.
She would not have been given dispensation for the move.
I understand a GBRF 73 hauled her to ZG.

She is now in a safe secure location and her future looks very good rather than being stuck on a bit of track inviting every scroate to attack her.

so WHY did the unit go to the bluebell in the first place seems all very bizarre and confusing to me was it planned to only be there a week all along and people assumed it was there to rot.

The Bluebell still own the unit, the unit has merely been moved for storage I believe. It was the centre-piece of the big opening of the East Grinstead site and the move of stock off NR onto Bluebell metals.
