i have just stumbled on some very interesting news, Queen Mary 2 has been sold to a UK based group , in september 2011
and not for scrap , , i believe the plan is to restore her, as the group are something to do with the paddleboat trust ?
who ever they are there is a web site and if you google ts queen mary it should come up

so amongst the bad news ,re Maxman, there is at least some good news, as the Queen Mary has been stripped internally, is there a chance that Maxman in her demise could be used to re fit the queen and so some good come out of her sad story, it would be fitting if she cant be saved that her fittings could live on in another clyde steamer

For the record Queen Mary 2 is Cunards current flagship and heading for New York as I type!

It will be interesting to see if this report is indeed a fact. Thanks for the heads up !

It is a fact but the details are not yet public.

As soon as I am advised of the situation I will let you know.

January 2012 edition of 'Ships Monthly' reports plans to moor her at Southend Pier as a 'tourist attraction.'

I was rather surprised by the report when I saw it this evening. Admittedly I have only been at the end of the pier at Southend when I have disembarked from Waverley but I would not have thought that for the most part of the year there would be anything like the traffic on the pier to sustain the vessel in years to come.

If the report is accurate I just hope I am wrong in my conclusion.

I share your concern Robert and also the fact that she would be static and exposed to coastal elements.
