Peak Rail General Discussion

There is indeed a tank for Rowsley. Fibreglass? Isn't it pressed steel? Certainly sectional panels, assumed it was a Braithwaite tank. It's dismantled in the yard at present, and I think it needs a new tower building, which is a fairly manageable exercise. There are also some water cranes to go with it.

The tanker in the shed having a tart up is the grey tank formerly resident at Darley Dale South Yard. Chris and Paul also have the black and white tanks (keep up!), which were at Darley Dale North Yard, in the shed for a more thorough restoration, which is what Chris Bodell's reports refer to the stripping and blasting of. The grey tank has been cleaned down, and painted in red oxide, and looks ace. Good stuff.
The yellow tank is now being rebuilt by Andrew Bodden. So, just the grey, black, white and yellow tanks to keep track of, which will now be the red, rusty/blasted, white and no-longer-a-tank wagon, respectively.

Over on the other side of the yard, some more cattle van parts have been delivered, which represents all of the useable body steelwork, and the remainder of the chassis should be on site shortly. 7828 (the LMS TO) is rocking on, looking forward to another busy weekend on that.

Another platform bench was delivered to Darley Dale down platform (thanks Rob) week before last, just needs repositioning to give maximum convenience to waiting passengers along the whole platform.

Update 29/01/11

Quite a cold yet bright day today

The red tank waggon Paul and Chris have been restoring uo was out today with the J94 upto Darley dale acting as the water supply for the pay and play,looks good gents,good job there!

The Hst lads were working on the 09 outside their shed and other things,The class 50 lads were also beavering away as was Mr Briddon, on our side Pete and myself sorted some cables out for Matlock,built up all the fittings in the location cupboard for Riverside and with Harvey and Robins assistance got the bent support for the Riverside lever frame into the shed and straightened up and rewelded,so now we have all the items ready to fit out the box base when required.

The volunteers have been continuing works at Riverside during the week and the ultrasonic test train has had a few runs up and down the line.

Elsewhere Ben`s continuing on filling and sanding the roof of the NRM coach ,Mr Boddens been continuing removing the worn parts on the old drain train tank waggon ,Harveys been busy in the shed working on window frames on one coach and Robins continuing his good works on various other projects too.

Hi Woodster,

The Derwent & Wye Valley Railway Trust has a water tank that we plan to erect at Rowsley. As there is no urgent need for this, it is on our longer term list.

 

Little Update;

John and myself had a look at a fault at church lane, that sorted we did some more work around Rowsley.

Paul was lining out/stencilling the tank waggon hes been working upon and Chris was working on the other tank waggon up at Rowsley,its ready for shotblasting next.

Mencap were doing a nice job tidying up the approaches to Rowsley and Harvey was busy working away in the LMSCA.

its very wet out there!

started the day with a look around the line at the flooding in the valley,the derwent had broke the banks between darley dale and matlock and was about 4 foot below bridge 35 at 9am, the feilds across the valley being underwater,but its still not as deep as ive seen it before.

started to wire up the matlock location for the box end (about half done) and did some more work on some ground signals to go in at Riverside, attended a fault at Darley Dale on an old push button for the lever locks,which till now have been foot operated, these will be replaced in the coming month with some block shelf mounted ones instead to remove potential future problems.

John Hinson has been busy working on the Delacher vans, hes progressing well and working on the doors and the slides for these,Harvey was busy in the LMSCA,Mr Briddon on his stock,Class 50s on their locos and the narrow gauge and lineside and track lads were doing maintenance on the lineside structures, a troublesome tree was dealt with by Mr Fisher and John and Mr Wainright and Chris have been continuing on the restoration of their respective tank waggons,-Paul has recently outlined the tank hes been working on in Shell electric oils livery, very nice looking.

Small update today.

continuing at Riverside weve got two out the three ground dolls in place now,together with other snagging and sundry works completed yesterday and today, the drains are working well but that didnt stop Pete and me getting drenched for two days in a row.

The HST,Class 50 lads were busy at the weekend up Rowsley,Chris has been continuing on the tank waggon restoration at Rowsley and John on the Delacher van restoration working on the side sliding doors now.

Hibberd has arrived for Vacuum brake fitting, by Mr Briddon,once finished it will be going to the Derwent Valley Railway at York.(A Briddon).

only nipped down on saturday and boy did it snow,every route in and out appeared to have some form of lorry accident into the area,because of the weather some of the dept couldnt get down so we carried on with the location wiring for riverside box,John and myself finished off wiring the remaining circuits bar one into the signalbox location for riverside box, then fitted all the wires to the remax tops of the relays,which makes life a lot easier when it comes down to moving and reconnecting it all in situ as the remax tops allow the relays to plug in together.

that completed we moved some wooden boxes round to the LMSCA for the warring forties event,which will be painted up along the production line to resemble 1940s boxes and sorts.and then headed off to Matlock to finish off some wiring up and connecting up the detector on the derwent ground signal.

away from the line im building up a new footbutton panel to replace Darley Dales one,so we can mount the buttons on the blockshelf for easier access and faulting.

The HST lads were down saturday and the LMSCA were working on the doors and trim to the NRM coach.

 

As Dominic is on holiday this week it falls to me to do this weeks update.
I was at Rowsley Wednesday putting the relay tops into bags and securing them to the shelves in the cabinet for inside Matlock box. This should stop them getting damaged when the cabinet is moved. The permanent way team were building up a trap point that will be installed where our track meets that of Network Rail
On Saturday, David, Lewis and myself spent the day preparing some more electrical gear that will be required at Matlock. The Heritage Shunters Trust were shunting the locos around in their shed and Mr Briddon was working on his locos

I see Austerity HE3883 is taking part in the steam/diesel gala in April. Has the loco arrived yet and if not please could you tell me when it is due to arrive?

Pete,John and myself spent today fitting out the trap point between NR and ourselves out with the facing point lock,insulated rods and everything else thats needed,so Rob can crane the whole assembly straight in the ground, the ballast has started to go down on the connection bed,more to be done this week too.

Mr Briddon senior and younger have been busy working on the class 14,HST and the class 50 lads too working on their locos,the turnatble fences were being recreosoted and tidied up,the Lmsca were also busy up in their shed and mr Hinson was working way on the Delacher vans.

Apart from that we also continued on the cable works John started last weekend.
