Kinlet Hall is planned to come in to service on Monday for the week. Don't forget there's no Torbay this weekend.

    7827 coming out for washout.

Seen Kinlet Hall this morning with a warming fire.
Then saw the RAT leave Paignton light engine after a lot of shunting as Manor was in front of the RAT in the shed !
Don't know why it went out as 4277 still running, I'm sure someone from there will let us know.

Which diagram is 4936 likely to be on Thursday? 1000 or 1045 off Paignton?

75014 is progressing, should be out in 12-18 months on the current plan.
5239 is out for some boiler work which will be carried out mainly in house at Churston, hopefully back in time for next season.

4936 will be on 1000 service on thursdat.

The 25 was out on sunday for some driver training.

Had a nice run behind Kinlet the other day (Wednesday) in the rain. She seemed to race up Goodrington on the 1045 and yet was slowed drastically by slipping on wet rails climbing the bend into Churston. Nevertheless, she did it! 4277 also seemed to be going well. Was surprised to see the chassis of 5239 out in the yard at Churston but the previous post has enlightened me (she's having some boiler work).

Are 4555 and 4588 the prairie sisters still on the line? I know that a few years ago the railway attempted to sell/swap 4588 Trojan but it was there last year at Churston. I haven't seen Warrior for years. Are there any plans for these two or is the official plan to keep running with the heavy tanks, the Manor and the Standard? I do expect that four engines is enough to get on with but 4555 was a lovely little machine...as was since departed Ajax :)

At the moment our main aim is to get 5239 back to traffic asap, then the standard. The 45's are still here. I expect that 4588 is still available if anybody wants to contact us. 4555 is probably the next one to be done after 75014 but these things change in the drop of a hat.

4277 today on a round trip passing 7827. Last week 4936 on a return trip........

this railway seems in good form despite the rain. The new station at Paignton is spacious.
Lots of new ideas incl the "Jubilee pass"(a rover) Greenway Halt(well used today) + a planned "walking week" in October.........

A very enjoyable trip! Many thanks

Dilemma here! Weekend has decent weather prospects but only one train service; next week looks really tasty with both 4-6-0s in action on enhanced timetable but what will weather be like?

Thanks, lickeybanker - Monday looks reasonable, by the standards of this 'summer' anyway. 2 no. 4-6-0s are well worth the risk!

Why not swap the two prairies for 3803 with whatever cash adjustment as needed. Each line would then have more appropriate motive power. Failing a swap what about some sort of loan deal.

If I remember correctly, 3803 was considered for the P&DR, but ultimately led to the purchase of 4277, a logical choice given they had experience of an almost indentical type in 5239.

That said, they could do worse than a 38XX for their requirements.

I don't think their motive power situation is too bad anyway, 7827 and 4277 in traffic with 4936 on loan, 5239 should be back for next year and 75014 is being worked on for when required.

Is there a reason 4555 is favoured for rentention over 4588 ?.

4555 is a slightly "better" engine, she's a bit more game than 88. However we would all love to keep every engine we've ever owned, most of us are enthusiasts at heart but realise enthusiasm does not pay the bills!

55 was the company's first engine and never went to Barry so is special to us.
