After looking at the railway's web-page re: the heritage weekend, I am surprised they do not mention that they hope to have their three locos in steam on both days.

yes it is hear for people to voice their opinions but those that do post their opinions in this thread need to respect the wishes of the person who posted the original thread

I do belive this was ignored or at least point one definately was.

I'm also as I said earlier sorry that I upset the volunteers at Churston, I have been down and spoken to them and they are a friendly bunch that do a good job keeping Churston looking tidy.

The other points were suggested to add variety as I know there are lots of extra additional activities but not everyone will be coming to see those some will come just to see the engines and travel behind them.

There was a request much earlier in this thread asking for volunteers to work at Paington, I have no idea of the outcome.

Was there not a request when Pooley? took over that he wanted volunteer TTI's and station staff?

I remember seeing a request for volunteers somewhere, saying just send in your details and what you can do. Just wondering how the P+D are going to manage their Thomas weekend, where at the SDR we HAVE to have something like over 50 staff each day to run the railway, from HIT's instructions. Surely they won't get in staff for a few days, would make Thomas unviable. It would be interesting if they do take in footplate crews as volunteers there, but that might upset their paid drivers. There's always the SDR and BWR to keep everyone going in that sense!!!

I should think that they will just run the train service like they noirmally do and then all the extra activities and things that are mentioned on the website will be run by staff that are brought in just for the event.

To be fair I think there is some sort of insurance issue to do with drivers and who can and can't drive on the line. This is why pone of their crews apparently have to get onto the mainline tours when they come down, as far as I can guess it probably has to do with knowing the line etc.

A DBS 67 went down this morning, returned later with posh train of MKIIs and MK1 buffet + a silver 67 on the back. What was that all about?

Oh. I see. Wonder why they didn't use Goodrington CS? vandalism risk these days? Still, more pennies for the P&DSR I guess.

Perhaps they should change their insurancer to the one we use. Most train crews are volunteers yet paid staff can crew, or part crew, a train as and when necessary. All in all a very satisfactory arrangement.

As I said I'm not sure on the exact details (maybe Rory or Tuffer could clear them up if allowed?) but I've always been led to believe when the question has been asked that that is why they add crews to the Torbay Express. It may not technically be an insurance issue maybe its just a thing to make life simpler as they can then change the signals [points etc as and when they need to for all the sunting movements the Torbay undertakes. After all a Mainline crew probably wouldn't know the system like they do? Whatever the reason I'm sure its a good one.

    Back to the Heritage Weekend

Just sitting here at lunchtime at work & just wondered if there was going to be a list, even if it were just hand written on a board at Paignton Station saying which loco / loco's could be on which trains at the Heritage Weekend (ie) Say 5029 + 7827 on the 10.30 from Paignton)). Only reason for saying this is that some would wish to travel & others may wish to take picture of certain double headers !
If you knew that it was going to happen you could travel & be were you wished to be to take pictures !
They have already told us the time of the Freight Trains which is good, so you can pick a place to be.
I know that if they had a listing, It might not run to plan, but I think it might help some that are going down for the weekend like myself.
To me it all looks good so far so lets hope the weather is good that weekend & Nunney Castle is fit to run.

On a different note I remember years ago waiting for 4920 & 7827 at one of there last gala's & ending up with 4920 in light steam & a Deltic turning up because something had set fire to a bank somewhere along the line !
