Padd to Rdg 1960

I'd not seen this before

 

At the start, it was 7903 Foremarke Hall, not 7909. (7903 of course survived and is currently on the GWSR.) It's a shame there's no sound to accompany these scenes, except for the narrator. However, a trip down memory lane for me (just!).
Whilst on the subject of the GWR/WR at Reading, here is one of the few colour photos we have of our 2807 during its pre-Barry Scrapyard era, seen here in October 1962 at Reading.

 

Another oldie from "the day". In regard to size and assignments the Castles & Halls seem to be similar. I have been looking for but not observed the dual/twin exhaust chimney on the Halls which some Castles were known to have. Was this done to Halls also? I am still on the learning curve of British steam with a long way to go.

Not the Halls.
All 30 Kings, all 30 Counties (a larger, 1945, version of the Hall), and 66 of 171 Castles were eventually fitted with double chimneys.
Apart from the first County, which was built with one, these were not fitted until the late 1950s/early 1960s.

 

Nick, thanks for the info. As I understand it the double chimney & added superheater tubes on Castles made a noticeable difference.
