There is an article in Heritage Railway stating that James May has joined the project, and will make one of the first parts "in his shed".

I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but I don't recall any mention of whether it will feature in one of his TV shows. If it did though, it would certainly generate a lot of publicity for the project. Quite a genius move in my opinion.

Out of interest, has anyone seen any mention of 2007 in the media (not counting the specialist magazines obviously)?

Just says James May will be making a small component in his shed - doesn't say what, not does the article say anything about TV coverage................................ The article May wrote was published in Top Gear magazine, of all places!!

So if that hasn't bought the project to a wider audience, what will?.......................................

There's an 'official launch' due sometime soonish, so I think that will signal the beginning of the media campaign in the popular press, TV etc.

You'd think that would be in conjunction with the Roadshows and a contributions scheme open to the general, (as apposed to the wealthy) public so reasonably soon...

I'm full of surprises ;) I'm sure it's all on the web-site or FB page, otherwise it's a figment of my imagination!

Had a day off the number crunching for some R&R up at the Churnet laying the new loop at Ipstones - very satisfying day it was too :)

    Answering my own question...

There was a feature on the project on the BBC Inside Out program, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire edition, last night. Quite a good piece which features an interview with Mark Allatt. Also some graphics which look they may have been borrowed from the forthcoming roadshow presentations. Says they are hoping to complete by 2021.

If you missed it or live in another region and want to take a look, it is available on iPlayer.

Good positive reporting. I do hope Victor stoped it before the burlesque sequence

Ha ha, I should have warned people about the burlesque feature. Everybody will be logging on now :). If you have a weak heart you have been warned, although bear in mind it went out well before the watershed!

Heidi, very tidy, seems a nice girl.:D
But no, I didn't stay for the burlesque, but the nice Mr Polmadie has mentioned Heidi to me. I'm just trying to ween Mr Yeti away from the BSW's.

Thanks for putting the link up for the TV programme. Rather interesting section on Burlesque. I forgot all about the P2 a bit so will have to watch the whole thing again to refresh my memory of the P2 section! ;)

Could the first part of the P2 have been made?

James May tweeted an image of a lathe saying ''Today I'm driving this'' then added another tweet of a finished component saying ''Made in Darlington, by unfashionable men. #Proud''. The picture of the component to me looks like a completed set of smokebox door handles.

He did say he was making a part for the loco and given it looks like it could be part of the loco and it was made in Darlington suggest to me it could be for 2007.

James May is almost as droll as James Blunt in replying.... quote, "I live in Darlington, what the f**k is it?" - May's response, "It's a town in Co. Durham" :p

Love it - smokebox door dart I think? Good man Mr James May. Looking forward to seeing further contributions from the Top Gear team. Perhaps we could have a rematch of the Race to the North with no.2007 in 2019 (which would be the tenth anniversary of the run…of course 2007 would need to be completed a few years early…!)

The P2 is developing amazingly well and the Top Gear link is a master stroke. Dont think there is a single enthusiast who wouldnt be impressed by the speed they are processing. At this rate they could have a set of built frame by the end of the year!

Look out on Iplayer later as BBC Look North's 18.20 news report have a feature about James May making his smokebox dart.
