NYMR Tornado tickets on sale

Discussion in 'Steam Railway' started by Thomas Bright, Sep 12, 2017.

Tickets are now on sale for new-build ‘A1’ No. 60163 Tornado’s forthcoming visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in March next year.

The Peppercorn 4-6-2 will be running on the NYMR on March 3-11 (excluding March 9), and follows in the footsteps of Stanier ‘7P’ No. 46100 Royal Scot and ‘A3’ No. 60103 Flying Scotsman in opening the railway’s operating season.

Weekend fares are £35 for adults and £17.50 for children, reducing to £33 and £16.50 respectively for mid-week journeys and groups (20+). For further information, telephone the railway on 01751 472508, or email Customer Services via info@nymr.co.uk.

Visiting big name locomotives have become the norm for the NMYR’s season-opening events, replacing the traditional Spring gala.

Flying Scotsman generated £1.5 million in gross income for the railway when it graced the line in 2016, and while Royal Scot didn’t enjoy quite the same success as the ‘A3’, it “still netted a considerable profit,” said NYMR General Manager Chris Price.

It is understood that No. 60163 will not be paired with the railway’s recently repaired LNER teak set; instead the ‘A1’ will run with a Mk 1 rake.

Tornado services will depart from Grosmont at 9.30am, 12.40pm and 3.40pm on March 3/4 and 10/11, with only the 9.30am and 12.40pm services departing Grosmont on March 6-8. Tickets must be purchased in advance and dogs (except assistance dogs) will not be permitted on the Tornado services.
