    Enjoyable day spent pottering about.

Timetable was about 20 down by 10am but thankfully ever got any worse. I did two trips with the 9F banking up the 1 in 49, the one with the schools on the front was particularly spectacular. Trains were well loaded but there were usually seats to be had towards the Pickering end. A shame Omaha wasn't out and it was difficult to get a good view of it in the running shed, although it seemed to have a bit of a leak from the tender so that might imply the health concerns have proven valid. Enjoyed the complimentary brake van rides at Levisham and the very good beef burgers on the platform at Grosmont. Surprised that rolling stock had to be hired in, there were well oven a dozen serviceable looking MK1s in sidings, I know a few took a rough shunt (or was that the teaks) but is there something else going on that has made so many inoperable? The timetable was decent but the full line freight at 17:15 and then 17:55 ex Grosmont only going as far as Goathland made for over a two hour gap between 16:02 and the 18:20 for Pickering bound services, with the former running very full.

But overall a solid gala, my compliments and thanks to all those who worked hard to make it happen.

Any ideas on the GWR tender not painted sitting in New Bridge yard?

The Fives sounded great on the 9.30am off Grosmont and then we had a spirited run with the Hall to Pickering, especially out of Levisham. After that, it was rather forgettable.

Some action from the weekend, which was mainly shot on Saturday and just the two scenes on Sunday morning. The double headed fives and the other double header with Peggy and the J27 passing Darnholme were the eye catching scenes. Repton on Saturday morning was rather nice, with a cracking exhaust. The Hall performed strongly throughout, though was never in trouble on the five coach sets and just romped up, even on six too. Eddystone sounded lovely on the Friday evening run, just wish it had a few more on the hook and a bit more light. We enjoyed travelling on the Sunday despite the operation issues encountered in the afternoon. I hope you enjoy the scenes.

My contribution from Saturday, the only day we could make it, looks like it may have been the best day, apart from the heavy shower late in the afternoon.

A memory of the October 2018 gala, with teaks and a clear lineside.
