Agreed Matt, loco roster before you get there via the website will be great.

All locos that are currently on site (as of last weekend) were boiler first from Grosmont and tender first from Pickering with the exception of 45212 which was still tender first from Grosmont.

Not sure what the plan is regarding 34070, 69023 or 44871, but presume that 44871 will arrive to run boiler first from Grosmont.

    Best Regards

Well, I'll be there on Friday assuming a run behind 34070 is possible. I don't really want to pay for glossy diagrams in advance (which may end up being inaccurate anyway). Providing free diagrams in advance is part of the event promotion. There is always the risk that those pesky freeloading photographers will take advantage but then I (and others) won't risk travelling any great distance if I can't plan my start time and destination in advance and know that the engines I want to ride behind (i.e. I will be buying a ticket and spending money in the shops and buffets anyway) are all available to me.

Good luck with the event - hope to be there on Friday!

I am advised that 44871 has been called to Scotland and not, therefore, be able to attend.

A replacement special guest is being sourced and it is hoped that arrangements can be finalised in time for an announcement tomorrow morning.

Naturally, this will mean some changes to what is running each day.

Quoting from the General Manager's e-mail:

"We learnt yesterday lunchtime that one of the guest locos booked for the Gala (44871) would not be attending. In its place, we have been most fortunate to secure at very short notice a visit by the new build A1 No 60163 Tornado.

Fitting the engine into a programme focused on the Somerset & Dorset will not be easy, but it should be seen as a parallel attraction (the nearest an LNER pacific probably came to the S & D was to pass over the top at Templecombe!). The loco will hopefully make 2 round trips on Friday between Grosmont and Pickering (including the Friday evening Pullman); 2 daytime trips on Saturday and 1 trip to Pickering and 1 to Battersby on Sunday. It is also likely that the engine will be on display at Pickering for a period on Saturday afternoon.

60163 is due to be re-painted in BR Brunswick green over the winter, so this will be one of the last opportunity for people in this region, where the engine was built, to see it in the iconic apple green that has become the engine’s trademark – certainly ‘up close’. It will also be a last chance for many years to experience an LNER livered engine with our LNER teak set – the right engine on the right train."

Not very S & D but hopefully a big draw. A great many thanks to the A1 Locomotive Trust for making 60163 available and DBS for arranging the move, and thanks to John Wilkinson for putting the "wheels in motion".

Nice one pulling Tornado out of the hat! That does make up for a slow & dirty theme.

Just want to add another thumbs up for the suggestion of downloadable rosters. Realise it might be tough to do it too far in advance if the line-up's fluctuating a bit, but I would definitely be happy to pay for a download and would prefer this to being a booklet - it's the core 'what loco on what train' bit that I'm really interested in.

Since 60163 is intended to be a very busy loco over the next few years, and as a mainliner is useful to the NYMR on the whitby- battersby i cant imagine that this will be its last trip there. The Brunswick green will only be on for a year or so tops so i dont think theres much in the 'last chance to see'.

Would be nice to see it being banked out of Grosmont by the J72 though...

PS 73129 Is 'doing the rounds' would she be ready ?

PPS, Is 45212 going back tio the KWVR some time ?

The timetables on the website now at least tell us which engine is running which day - it's a start!

Proceeds from the sale of the rosters are to go to overhaul of 80135, I believe - a very worthy cause!
