Have to correct you there Harold

Green - steam can operate with spark arrestor and ash pan sprinkler
Amber - consider use of diesel
    Red - diesel assisted steam
    Black - no steam operation

Ah was Double red a few years back when the SVR opted to use the same system. Must have changed since. SVR will catch up soon!

Personally I appreciate the info that you give out on here, I have no allegiance to WCRC though.

You've got to admire the local media, the same outlets that got themselves all a lather about the fires last Saturday (not seen it linked to the fires on Sca Fell yet... but suspect its only a matter of time), are now excitedly reporting to their readers about steam down the coast this Saturday... who's gonna tell them....

There will be steam at the front though won't there? It's just the diesel will be doing all the work. We know that, but the general public that just wants to see a steam train won't know, or even care.

I'm going around the coast myself tomorrow on the blue HST, so will keep an eye out for places where fires look to have been.

Thank goodness for that. I do hope that saves the GB train, albeit for those onboard knowing they are still at least still travelling behind the booked steam loco. And as for the lineside photters, thinking caps on guys to get as many shots as possible without the diesel in shot - where it is on the back of course.

But, this is Britain, in two weeks time we could be talking about the lines closed due to flooding!

Please, please keep your wonderful hunour going. You come across as a guy who, as the saying used to be 'he doesn't have a bad bone in his body'.

And I do really love your steam reports with decent Maisie updates!

Let's assume that things will be more mixed from next week onwards. All the pressure charts point towards a change but the country really needs a dousing to retrieve ground conditions to what they should be in April.

Thanks for the info Harry, in some ways a surprise this did not happen earlier. Do we know if assisted means diesel behind the steam loco or on the back? Is it up the the operator to decide? Tangmere was already being assisted on Saturday if on the back counts.

Tbh I’m not really sure if there is a set standard? I’m sure somebody will.

I know 35028 goes with a diesel behind loco when it’s under fire risk, but WCR have been known to assist from the back? Certainly when I saw 46115 pushed along in Red Risk it was from the rear.

Good job NR decision makers don't work weekends! Less than 24 hours after Tangmere was very naughty, 7029 was blasting round Warwickshire working very hard and not a blade of grass was harmed. And yet now we have this ban country wide. And yes I know it's the NB thread but it is relevant to the previous dozen or more posts
