Normal Grosmont Santa is T&T with steam on the south end and diesel on the north end as the train terminates in the heart of Newtondale, thus no run round facility.

They're running Winter Whiby Excursions in to the New Year until January 7th, I can't seem anything to indicate whether steam or diesel,, is there something I've missed?

It will be a very cold journey if they run it diesel hauled so I think you’ll find it’s steam

I'm rostered on the first one on 28th Dec and it is definately intended to be steam, presumably 5428.

How would that work then? Assuming there is enough demand to fill most of the set departures, people need a round trip, and most passengers come from the South?

Sounds like you'd either need a lot of ECS miles, or locked out coaches to cater from both ends?

Agree with 47406, was always a Grosmont starter on the Winter Timetable before Covid.

Without knowledge of how operations previously worked, presumably Pickering is much easier to reach for 90% of passengers. Big car parks in Pickering, closer, to other population centers, not got to navigate steep roads in icy weather down to Grosmont.

The only benefit I can see from starting at Grosmont is that it's by the engineering works and mainline trains
Sounds like a positive change to me

I have just seen on youtube, GBRf 66710 towing Hampshire DEMU 205205 along the Esk valley line and delivering it at Grosmont.
Can anyone from NYMR provide more information please?

Not sure what you saw; 205205 resides at Epping (though one car away for contract overhaul). Sounds like a very old video from when the unit first moved there years ago?

Think I just found the video and it is an old video, just uploaded recently. The Thumper is in Connex livery in the video and 6619 appears, so presumably from before the latter moved to the KESR as well.

I did see another video the other week, overlooking Nemesis Rail's depot during a shunt and an NSE liviered Thumper car was part of the consist (a 4 car DEMU unit in BR Green was on another road too), so presumably the one you mentioned.

Ah, looks like I Jumped the gun then, The give away should have been that it was still in Connex livery when filmed, Of course it is at Epping and Ongar Railway. Anyway Thanks for that.
