A lovely day out yesterday in the Sunshine with 4277 - looking superb

    Thank You
ps : I noticed what looked like two BR Type2 tenders in Weybourne yard. I imagine one is from 76084 but the other?

Glad you had a good time - the railway is looking really good for the start of the season and the scenery is stunning in the sunshine.

The tenders are from 76084 and 76079. The second is on loan from our colleagues at the NYMR as 76084’s sprang a leak which will be addressed during her overhaul so a replacement was needed to keep her in traffic until the end of her ticket.

Thank you for confirming. I imagined 79 to be a likely donor as choices otherwise are limited. Didn't realise the reasons though. :)

I guess with the overhaul costs there may be a lot of debate about the need for two 2-10-0s on a 5 mile railway.

Hardly like it’s being asked to take a fast freight from Saltley to Carlisle via Leeds is it?

It's not always so simple as "one in one out" as different arrangements are always negotiated at different times but broadly speaking the gap left by 4MT 76084 & 9F 92203 is being picked up by the 4277 & 22 hires for 2024. It is hoped that the loss of Y14 564 later in the year can be in part eased by the return to service of WD 90775.

I think with the scarcity of available steam locomotives for hire the NNR has done well to secure two locomotives on loan.

Is there any news on the N2?

Seems a number of railways are going to be scratching about for motive power this year.

There’s a post one page back with quite a comprehensive update on the status of the fleet

I think it is worth saying that we are very pleased with the progress being made off-site with the Gresley Brake Third Open (16631) at Wirksworth (a detailed update on this is in the third link). I am only involved indirectly as the maintenance of the vehicle should eventually be under my wing, but the speed of restoration progress on a now unique Gresley BTO that was in quite poor condition is swift and the prospect of a growing BR era LNER train, resourced by the M&GN Society, is an exciting development for the overall landscape of the carriage fleet on the railway. What's doubly rewarding is seeing this work done in these post-Covid times where survival and consolidation are by necessity a more common strategy than expansion.

Touch wood this will mean the motive power front will be very healthy for the summer season

To misquote a certain member on here atm I’m not willing to bet even a Celebration size Mars Bar for it to be ready for August.
The 6880 group need to get some credibility in the bank first.
I also wonder how Allelys/Heanor (other heavy haulage companies apply) feel?
‘We want a trailer to take a loco to Leicestershire, no Somerset, no Worcestershire, no back to Somerset, can you take us Norfolk?’
I really wouldn’t want to be in a position where I’m relying on 6880 to fill the gaps in my roster atm

I intend to see and ride behind the Grange some time, but I'll wait until it's definitely running somewhere.

Even with just the two visitors that have already arrived, the NNR’s motive power shortage must have been alleviated greatly
