John, whilst it’s great to hear you had a lovely time at somewhere I love and enjoy spending time, Can I just pull you up on one point? It was Stephen Holden who designed the B12’s not Mr Thompson. I will agree though it’s a lovely machine and if I could I’d take it home with me! :)

Hi Matt - B12/3 was a Thompson organised rebuild of the LNER built Lentz gear examples of class B12/2 at Stratford works under Gresley’s direction.

His assistant, A E English was also involved quite significantly in the rebuild of class prototype 8579 (and these rebuilds informed Thompson’s rebuilding of class D16 into D16/3).

One could also view that as a shame that it's necessary - why is there litter trackside to warrant a member of staff picking it up?

No trip today but was walking in the area. Gala was on, we saw four different locos from our walk without having to divert .
Stopped off at Holt station on the way past, nice to see this lovely loco again.[IMG]

I can't believe it has been nearly a decade in steam for the B12/3, no.8572, and now nearly at an end of its ticket.

That particular locomotive brings a lot of joy to me every time I see it - hoping that we will see it back at work sooner rather than later. It's such a gem.

From what I’ve read in Joint Line the hope is it will be back in service in 2023. A lot quicker than it’s last overhaul and certainly quicker than its first overhaul in preservation!

It can’t be more than a few years until 76084 and 92203 are due their ten yearly overhauls either.

I wonder if 76084 will stay on the NNR after it’s next overhaul?

Why wouldn't it? Wasn't a controlling interest in the loco bought by local supporter of the line?

I’d forgotten that. I’d just always wondered as it’s owned by a Northern based group it might make its way back up there one day

Last running for 8572 before overhaul this coming weekend. Looks like it will do 3 round trips with the quad-art set in between the steam and diesel services on the regular yellow timetable: https://www.nnrailway.co.uk/b12-farewell/

    Morning,

Hope I can tap into the collective wisdom on here.

Is the autumn steam gala usually on a certain weekend each year?

We're currently looking at booking a holiday cottage for next sept on the North Norfolk coast, and looking to maximize the chances of it coinciding with the gala.

    Many thanks,

    Chris

I think it is usually the weekend after the August Bank Holiday. It was when I went in 2013 and 2017.

This may be of interest I've seen on my google newsfeed North Norfolk news: north Norfolk railway plans to take step forward something about the original Holt station site about the Melton constable trust has acquired 180 metres of land, in the eventual hope to reach Falkenham if the mid Norfolk railway eventually opens up to County school.
