Was this the first time an Ivatt 2 has visited the line in preservation? Out of interest was it popular with the NNR crews?

  2. The NNR had 78019 for 'thats your lot' gala http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/archive/thats_yer_lot.htm. I loved 46521, match made in heaven with the 3 suburban coaches. I was doing a platform turn at Holt on Friday 2nd, I'm pleased it was a lot warmer compared to the March gala this year, sadly the timetable and the token failures on Friday just made the day just a little more difficult when someone would ask what time is the next train? or what platform is it coming into?

Word on a long grapevine is spring gala for 2017 instead of March will be in April. Just hope don't clash with other galas/ events around the country.

Next year's gala dates were on the back of the timetable/programme from this weekend - it does indeed say 21-23 April.

I thought it looked like pilot man getting off the 37 when we arrived in Holt on Friday so had assumed problems with tokens that had delayed our departure from Weybourne. Did it carry on with pilot working for the rest of the day?

It must have been grim for a bit in Holt on Friday afternoon. At one point I arrived in Sheringham and realised that all 3 rakes that weren't in Weybourne yard were in Sheringham.

I have always just wondered, with the lack of Ivatt 4s about, whether if an Ivatt or Standard 2 ever came on the market it might be a type suitable for the NNR.

I'd say an ivatt or std 2 would be an ideal day to day loco for every std gauge railway going, save perhaps for the NYMR and WSR due to their general length of train and gradients.

It's a crying shame 46441 sits unused at Ribble. Remember her on the S&C running tender first with a rake of MK1s up Mallerstang.

Is it 46441 which ran at the east lancs in br maroon? Would have been mid 90's or very early 2000's from memory?

I think 46441 is the only Ivatt 2 to wear the maroon livery in preservation, so must have been.

It was, I'm very fond of the old girl. Have a Bachmann model of her in BR Maroon livery. Perhaps km mad for thinking she could still find a place on the mainline.....

Nothing wrong with that, if a Pannier can go mainline! 46441,443,521 have all gone mainline so there could be a case for one to do so again...

  12. Running to Cromer again on 7th September & 8th September will be 4MT 76084 & class 20 20 227, heading the North Norfolkman. I'll try and get some half decent photos. Then 76084 will be making it's way up to the NYMR for their gala, I would like to hope that 76084 will make full use of it's new mainline ticket and go all the way by rail, I'm not sure what it's fuel capacity would be like from North Norfolk to Grosmont. It would be a sight to see on the ECML.

I hope 76084 stays in Norfolk a bit longer. It's become one of my favourites.

Does it have a full ML Ticket then? Thought it was just derogated for Sheringham - Cromer?

Why not indeed, think she'd look good blasting out of Norwich with a train of MK1s for Sheringham...... OK enough fantasy

TBH that would be the sort of mainline work an Ivatt would be ideal for, not that far, and with a sensible load... One day maybe

Well the NNR does have long term plans (or hopes) to run sevices to Norwich. Whether it is 76084 at the head of the train if and when it happans I guess is another matter.
