I don't know where you get your news but if true, that's good to hear. They have a problem with the seaward side of carriages deteriorating faster than the landward side, so a turntable could be invaluable for evening up weathering if nothing else, of course the turning facility I'd really love to see is Runton triangle :) but that is probably off the agenda until I win the Euromillions

The news is in this month's Steam Railway. Ex Hull turntable being purchased from the SDR for installation at Holt.

Cool. So that's turntables to both of the bigger Norfolk railways in the last year. I look forward to reading Joint Line, which I'm guessing is probably at the printers now (been waiting for some gala pics).

Joint Line is due to go to the printers next week, as I have just submitted my report to the editor in the past day or so.

Volunteers had heard the usual "rumours", but the Steam Railway reference is the first I've heard of the TT news appearing in print.

As well as evening up the carriage body wear (sea salt on one side and UV rays on the other!) the turntable will be good for their wheelsets as the NNR basically runs round a 90 degree bend along its length. It will certainly be more use for the carriages than the resident engines, as the latter (like many railways) will always be favoured as running smokebox towards Holt due to the gradients. As far as engines are concerned I guess the TT will be used for minline visiting engines and as a gala play-thing.

Here's hoping there's little damage to one of my favourite locos

Ouch, hope the damage isn't too severe. I was looking at that only the other week at the gala and thinking there is very little room between the points and the buffers. It almost looked as if some loco's wouldn't fit in the space, but they obviously will.

We are pleased to report that the railway's vintage train has grown to four vehicles following the completion of M&GN (Ex Midland Railway) First Class saloon No3. A full description of its return to service and previous history is available in this week's C&W Blog update:

With the recent acquisition of Black Prince, was just wondering if the NNR had made any other attempts to acquire ex-BR engines in the past?

Yes there was the well publicised case a few years ago when the M&GNJRS was trying to acquire 47564 from the MRC.

I'm interested in how you test Vacuum cyclinders?

I can see on the support to the right that you have indications for (I presume) 15", 18" and 21" cylinders + some figures. Do you use a Vacuum Pump?

We tend to test ours by closing the valve and then suspending the piston from an engine hoist and, if it hasn't moved by the time we've had Lunch, then it is (normally) found to be working effectively when 'in service'.

The chalk marks on the actual cylinder? I'm speculating but, the No of inches of vacuum, + the time that you similarly wandered off for lunch.:)
