With Black 5 5428 now in traffic, the NYMR's loco works are moving on to their next project, which will be standard 4 4-6-0 75029. The main work required on it is the renewal of its copper firebox, which will be done in parallel with constructing an almost identical firebox for standard 4 2-6-4T 80135. A lot of preparatory work was carried out with the boiler in the frames, but the boiler has now been lifted from the frames for work to begin in earnest.

With 1264, 5428, 926, 65894, 80136 and 76079 all in traffic with long boiler tickets plus 825, 63395, 29, 34101 92134 and Lucie set to join them over the coming year, the NYMR's motive power position is looking the healthiest it has been for many years.

It will be nice to see 75029 out and about again... When was it last steamed? I saw it in May at the back of the shed, looking pretty weathered - But I know locos can weather pretty quickly outside at Grosmont!

I believe it is hoped to return 75029 to traffic in 2020, but I think it may be quite an ambitious target considering the committment of the boiler shop to finishing 34101 and the mechanical team to 92134 - plus the fact that they will be doing two fireboxes in parallel.

What's expected out from the works in 2019? S15 + 9F and the tram?

My money is on S15 825, LHJC 29 and Lucie. 92134 is in the frame but it will be towards the back end of the year.

Work on 75029 seems to be progressing quickly (firebox patches about ready to be welded in) but the NYMR should be well off for locos this year so it would make sense to stagger the re-entry into traffic to 2020, when 34101 is also due to be finished.

Post elsewhere by the NYMR boilersmith says he is hoping for 92134 in the next couple of months. That's a tall order but I hope he's right. Boiler cladding going on today.

There has been some outstanding restoration and overhaul work going on at Grosmont over the last couple of years (at least!) . The quality and pace of work done is very impressive and their engagement with the "outside world", especially through the MPD page on Facebook, is admirable.

With all this progress, one would hope a concentrated effort can be made on Vera in the not too distant future ! That is one loco I remember from my childhood.

Latest news seems to be that the boiler and firebox are proving to be better than expected, and there is around £140,000 in the appeal fund, so a reasonable amount already there when expenditure starts. Contributions still welcome, though!

Due to better than expected results last year work (previously suspended for lack of budget) on 75029's boiler/firebox repair and 80135's new firebox has been funded and is proceeding.
