    Our local RHTT that is. The loco on the other end isn't quite so bad but still difficult to work out what colour is underneath all that grime.

    How odd; the loco gets covered in the liquid put down to treat the tracks during leaf fall season. The trackwork doesn't end up looking like that though.

    AIUI it's the crud it cleans off the rails that gives the locos their snazzy new livery.

    Thanks for this info. That explains why the cab nearest the wagons is covered, but not he far end.

    I'd say there's a fair chance that the jets are wider than the rail head and most of that is crap off the ballast?

    All Loco's on RHTT turns end up caked in crap, the DRS 20's up Yorkshire look like they've spent a couple of months on the MGR circuit under BR.
