Such a shame, I've really enjoyed the diesel events I've attended at the NVR since I've moved down in 2012. A1A loco's have always struck me as a decent outfit, the 31 gala last year was rather good fun as an example of what they can do. Maybe an outstation at somewhere like the Mid Norfolk beckons?

The WSR could do with a type 2 if there's one going, although they don't appear too keen on EE product's, with the 52 out long term 7018 still not 100% and 47840 not yet ready why have it in for the year, cheap to run, light and capable of typical loads with good acceleration yet small enough to make some interesting noise

I don't see there being a shortage of offers @Captain Fantastic. Someone's going to get a useful machine for their railway somewhere.

Having a late lunch at the NVR at Wansford and it's a hive of activity: Tornado in light steam and the blue class 14 busily shunting the crane and the vans around.

    Who needs the telly? :)

As it will be leaving on Tuesday, an opportunity taken to get one last photo of Tornado. I was hoping it would still be wearing its temporary 35A shed plate, but sadly no.

Also had a ride in Helga the railcar :)

Chuffing along behind Repton as I type - which appears to have developed what someone on here called "Stanier Syndrome" :D

A big 'thank you' to the NVR today: two runs behind Repton (one in a brake van!) and a cab ride in Martello.

    Brilliant :)

And to add to it; I bought a random couple of issues of Nene Steam. On the back cover of the Winter 2004 edition is the showman's engine that once belonged to our village butcher (and latterly his son) which was occasionally worked on by my father :D

It certainly is. One of the volunteers I know well said to me "we ought to hijack this engine, it's great"!

I'd hope that one day though the NVR might borrow a smaller LMS engine - something that'd be in keeping with the line's latter life.

I also reflected that the last time I travelled on the footplate of a steam loco was at Bressingham, nearly forty years ago! The warmth in Martello's cab was much appreciated as the wind was very cold today; there were a few flakes of snow at one point and later in the afternoon it got very cold, windy and cloudy so I took that as a cue to go home. Martello must have made the NVR a few bob as the footplate rides were very popular indeed.
