I saw someone had started a thread for Standard Gauge locos on this forum, so I thought one was needed for for proper locos too. Who is going to start?

I don't see anywhere that states that it is only for standard gauge locos.

Very true, but N.G. locos are more likely to be followed on this side of the forum.

Last I heard, Talyllyn is due back in a very few months.

If Maitland hasn't yet crossed to the IoM, that's imminent too.

I suspect on the FfWHR, Linda and Garratt 138 will return to service this year, perhaps also Taliesin. Not sure what, if anything, is approaching the end of its ticket, but Alco and EoM aside, nothing seems to sit out of service for long anyway.

W&L loco news copied from the December edition of "The Earl"

    ● No.1: The primary loco next season.
    ● ‘Zillertal’: Will remain on the railway for
the immediate future. “We will do some works
over winter on its reliability, on the tubes and
    on the bottom end.”
    ● 699: Will be the core focus for the
mechanical engineering team over this winter,
“to get it into traffic early next year.”
    ● No.85: There will be a fundraising and
tender process carried out with the Friends of
the Sierra Leone National Railway Museum.
    ● No.7: An appeal is underway for the
    overhaul of ‘Chattenden’.
    ● No.2” ‘The Countess’ will remain on display
at Welshpool for the immediate future to space
out its overhaul from The Earl.

At Apedale, we are expecting the arrival of a new-to-steam Orenstein & Koppel steam loco during 2022. We've also recently had the return of the NBR replica Decauville "Edgar" after further improvement works, which should make it into a reliable performer for light traffic days.

Copied from the other thread as also pertinent here.

Should be one in, one out with the 2’ gauge Bagnalls at Amberley Museum. 0-4-0ST “Peter” (2067/1918) should return to traffic in the Spring following major overhaul, with ex-Groudle Glen 2-4-0T ‘Polar Bear’ (1781/1905) likely to be withdrawn at the end of the season pending overhaul.

I haven't been keeping completely up to date, however at the SKLR, one 1905 built 'Brazil' will trade out for another. If remember correctly Leader is due out somewhere between March and May, and Premier is to return within the year.

I'd have to ask others, but there might be an opportunity for all three resident Brazils to be running at one time.

Don't forget everyone's favourite double engine James Spooner as well. Vellinhelli might be back late next year too.
I don't think any F&WHR locos expire next year. The next would be Prince in 2023.

    Hey everyone.

Don't forget the dedicated threads and relevant web sites for this kind of info where all the detail should sit.

Subject to the government NOT reintroducing any further Covid regulations that will prevent completion, 'Sir George Newnes' (formerly named 'Charles Wytock') should re-enter service at Woody Bay on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway during 2022.

In 'these islands', certainly .... though the IoM is not part of the UK. Ireland had three AB 0-4-0WTs for Bord na Mona in 1949. AFAIK, nowt for any GB/UK public line since the last pair of NCC S Class (compound) 2-4-2Ts, built at York Road (Belfast) in 1920. The last for any passenger line anywhere in Ireland were a brace of Hunslet 4-6-0Ts, for the West Clare in 1922.

I was wondering whether B.A.C or The Puggy Line, the highway construction industry, or the iron fields of eastern England had anything built new.

I'm pretty sure everyone's favourite double engine is EoM .
I still think the new one should be Charles Easton Spooner and not James...

The overhaul of 'Dromad' might be completed in 2022 and then returned to the C&LR which would then have 2 steam locos in service.
