Oooh! Does anyone know if any of the recent visitors will see further use apart from 80078 next Sunday, or have they already gone home?

While out and about for work yesterday, thought I'd pop my head into a damp Medstead to catch the Standard 4. Also managed to catch up with the guys from the 35011 Group at a more sunny Eastleigh who were keeping Wadebridge company. Judging from the queues for footplate visits, it would appear that the draw of steam hasn't waned! a.jpg b.jpg c.jpg d.jpg

Going by a picture I have seen on Twitter today it appears that a very popular TV detective Series set in the late 1960's is filming or will be filming at the railway. Be interesting to see what makes into the programme next year....

Another "filming location" picture appeared today on Twitter of the former Kings Cross footbridge at Ropley. This will be an impressive filming contract for the MHR as the programme it is for is a prime time hit show on ITV.

From what I've heard, the station has been totally revamped and renamed for this. I've also been told that they have erected the BR "Arrows of Indecision" on the station yet this is a period drama set in the early '60's. Would that be correct or is it another media blooper?

    I enjoy watching Endeavour. :)

Will be interesting to see how the footage is used & whether or not the footplate crew make a cameo appearance......... & no. I wasn't there!

The next Series of Endeavour is set in 1968 and the double arrow logo was introduced in 1965. So this is correct. However, the writer of the series Russell Lewis does like to put in deliberate mistakes concerning the time period to keep fans on the ball.

I am also a big fan of Endeavour. A superb prequel for Inspector Morse.
The production designer for Endeavour has posted the images shown below on Twitter. I don't know where the other Railway location is with a signal gantry. I am wondering if the picture of Endeavour and Fred Thursday in the field is also near the MHR.

The field could well be near the line........

Unless I've missed something, that signal gantry is nowhere near the MHR!

The wagons look like they 'could' be up the Meon sidings, but its hard to tell.

The signal gantry looks to be the one at the south end of the Brill platform at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (Quainton Road)which has previously featured in stories in the series.

Sure it's not a Blues Brothers remake? "We're on a mission from Alton"

It's 10 miles to Alresford, we've got a full tender of coal, half a pack of cigarettes, it's light and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it...

The first of the visiting locos for the October diesel gala has been released. According to MHR Facebook D9002 Kolyi is one of the visiting locos for the gala.

As its almost the weekend, a quick heads up, if folks are interested........

The freight is out to play this weekend, both Saturday & Sunday & given the rostered loco's I'd guess the 9F will be doing the honours......

From what I've been told, it departs Medstead for Alton, haven't seen the timetable.so don't shoot me if I'm wrong, from where it does 2 round trips, and brake van rides on the QMB will be available both days for the usual supplement of £10 one way either Alton - Alresford or vice versa.

So if you're looking for something different this weekend, the QMB is the place to be. ;) :)

Had the latest issue of the Mid Hants news arrive today. Good news and very sad news contained within.
It sounds like there might be a Class 47 diesel coming to live at the Railway. Also nice to read the news about the overhaul of 34007 with the boiler going out to a contractor. She could be back earlier than previously expected.

I have to say I was really shocked about the sad news regarding the lovely singer Memphis Belle, Lorraine Smith. She was always a highlight of War on the line for me and I did wonder where she was this year. So sad that she passed away in March this year.

Yes the thought of 34007 the oldest original light pacific, running with 34105 the youngest original, during roughly the same time frame is an interesting one.

I see also that 34105 is confirmed as getting a new centre cylinder, which is what I had previously heard from 34007 loco group shareholder David Williams.
