Perhaps you could elaborate for those who didn't hear about it?

    Thank you.
Would I be jumping the gun to assume that preparatory work might start reasonably soon?

One of these days it will not be wet and windy on a Saturday atop the hill!!!!

Four like minded souls gathered yesterday to progress LMS van M517317........ two had the task of starting to bring all the metalwork under the solebar up to scratch, which means a lot of derusting & red oxiding!

As it turns out, they had the best working enviroment, as Muggin's 'ere and his mucker had to contend with heavy downpours and ever increasing winds which ulitmatrly hampered progress with the ply end sheets, though we did manage to get all the remaining bolt holes on the London end drilled, bar the ones for the roof hoop, and fit the rubber edging, it was high winds and heavy rain that prevented us from parking them back in place.

    Some pics from the day....

A video of the move of 80150 from Alresford to Ropley has appeared on YouTube. Must admit I got a bit emotional at the end with the comments from the people who travelled up on the footplate:

It's great to see the video of the loco that many of us have crawled under, scraped rust off of, painted and helped to conserve over the past few years safely make it to Ropley.
    Didn't Martin look happy !

All I can say is "Fantastic" :)

And so dear reader, for once on a Saturday when five hardy souls gathered atop the hill to contnue to do battle with LMS van M517317, we didn't get wet!!!

After the usual morning ritual, we set to....... the lads who started the derusting underneath the van last week picked up where they left off and by the end of the day more metalwork was into red oxide.

Muggin's 'ere and his mucker were determined this week to get the ply end sheets bolted into position..... we were intent on doing the London end, but this was knocked on the head, as matey had to cut out and weld in a new piece of steel to the London end, north side wrap round..... plus on the opposite side there is a large section of wrap round that needs new steel and requires the longitudinaal beam removing before repairs can be done - something we can't do until the north side longitudinal is fitted!! :Arghh:

So, whilst matey cut out and welded in a new piece, we got on with the country end boards...... not easy with all the stuff in the way that had nowhere else to go, plus there were more holes to drill than you actually realise....... at least the wind was more of a breeze than a gale for a change, meaning we could work off ladders on the outside! :)

By the end of the day the boards were finally in place, though next time we need to ease the bolts off to apply some caulk around the washers as a belt & braces approach to making them weather proof.......

    The boards finally in position.

The new steel welded into place.

    More progress underneath.

It were a frustrating day yesterday atop the hill, both weather and workwise........ it rained hard on and off for most of the day!!! :Arghh: :Arghh: :Arghh:

It started out fine as six like minded nutters gathered, including a new recruit........

Two of the lads continued with derusting and red oxiding underneath LMS van M517317, me oppo and the new recruit went off and continued wit the brakes and rigging on the milk tank, leaving muggin's 'ere & matey to continue with fitting the London end ply sheets - well, one, before moving on to sort out the internal cladding planks........ well, that was the plan, which went out of the window straight away - the ply no longer fitted behind the external cladding!!! :Banghead: :Banghead: :Banghead:

So to enable the ply to be fitted, it meant removing all the cladding planks, and working out just why....... with the planks off, the ply was quickly fitted to the London end north side, and the cladding planks offered up one by one....... it soon became clear that narrower bolts were required to get the planks to sit happily in position, plus a fair few boly holes had to be redrilled - the excess will just have to be filled with caulk!

By the end of the day, the ply sheet was all but permantly fitted and the cladding planks sitting how they should, more of th underneath was in red oxide, and the brakes on the milk tank pretty much done! :)

Oh, and our newest member wants to come back next week!!!! :Saywhat: Seems he like us and what we get up to........ :Jawdrop: :Jawdrop: :Jawdrop:
