Is 828/30828 ever likely to be back in steam? First locomotive I went behind on the mainline and holds real memories for me

Re 80150, conservation work is continuing and parts are being made...however a move to Ropley will not happen until the Butts bridge replacement is completed. 34007 was moved from the Alresford headshunt prior to the current line blockade at Ropley so I don't know where it sits in the current queue, I believe it doesn't actually need a huge amount of work to get running again...I also had heard the rumour of an off-site overhaul, although whether that was just the boiler or the whole loco I am not sure.
It would be nice to think the team working on 75079 could start on 80150 once the 4-6-0 is finished, but maybe the return of 73096 has complicated that. (No insider info, just my thoughts, although as one of the team working on 80150 I am biased!)

A lot depends on what actually needs doing on 73096, using RO water helps to reduce the work boilers need as the water is not stripping the steel and copper , So it could be the case that the 5 only needs boiler work and a light overhaul on the bottom end, in which case the std 4 team could go on to 80150 to strip it , and the others work on 73096 along side it it will be interesting to see what difference the use of treated water makes to boiler overhauls i suspect you could see the 5 turned round very fast whilst 80150 gets done at a much slower pace

The technology and additives that can help with water treatment is a good example of where the science of 2018 can pay dividends in the long run with boiler condition. On a heritage line where water is taken at a countable number of points it is considerably easier than on the main line where water content can vary quite a lot dependent on where you are.

That would make sense, 73096 is pretty much ideal for the Mid Hants - a robust design powerful enough for pretty much any service we are likely to run whilst not being so big as to be wastefully thirsty/coal hungry.

Yes, subject to fundraising to complete the boiler overhaul.
The chassis and tender are more or less completed and the first steel for the new smokebox has been ordered and should arrive pre-rolled and cut to size in the next few weeks.

Has Duty Druid applied for the job???

30506 should be finished "soon" and the Urie group are also aiming for 499 to be in service by 2020. Thanks to Romsey for the 828 update.

Publication of the loco strategy for the railway. Of course some may not be excited by this as it will reduce the element of surprise.

Over the moon that an S15 will be running again soon, but I'm slightly sad that my Dad, who was a Mid Hants volunteer, didn't live long enough to see it
