Whoops! Thanks for the correction! I had originally intended to put 45379 but I had 73096 on the brain what with the good news of her return in June!

Lewisb As a former MHR driver and BR driver I will say here and now he IS stood to close to the track . he is just off the ballast line and thus too near to a passing train,[/QUOTE]

And what is the minimum distance someone can be from the track to be in a position of safety on a 25mph railway?

And as a former driver you should know thats its 4ft.....
Rule book states that the minimum distance 0-100mph is for 4ft

He certainly looks more than 4ft away...

That said just because someone has a camera and maybe(or not) a PTS does not give them the right to go anywhere they like...

Nope - even I am not that silly. My point is that things are not always what they seem.

very true, it is not always easy to tell where a photographer is standing from their photograph. Now the crews of the loco would have a far better idea.

No mentionof them in the rule book.
All it mentions is being in a position of safety.
So what about a member of train crew taking a photo of a passing train.....say for example he is standing in front of his loco and taking a shot of an approaching train? Is that not ok?

What gets me on here is the arm chair experts(not aimed at you David). That just because a photo "appears"to be taken a bit close from the running line it should be removed.

If someone could link me to the photos I will have a look.

I can't promise what action/any action is taken, but I shall discuss it with Tim & the Safety & Standards Director.

I have just emailed Jim Russell and Tim Beere about it. In the meantime, can we please stop the discussion on it, as it may do more harm than good. Although, judging by them, I tend to agree with David.

I will just put the lineisde issue to bed.
The Mid Hants do not concider that particular photographer was in a dangerous position.
