Am i right in thinking that some people are just not aware of the full potential to these such things or just pure rivet counters

I just cannot believe a couple of the posts on here. I am looking forward to seeing 60019 as 4492. O.K. in an ideal world there would be a set of LNER Teaks behind her But I would much rather see her/ ride behind her with technically incorrect coaching stock than not at all.

No wonder 'trainspotter' is used as an insult when we have people who make comments such as these in our midst!

    Oakfield,

I have to agree with you there, I think a lot of people will want to see this beast up close & personal in its current guise (I certainly do!) rather than flashing past on the mainline.

As for the coaching stock - who cares? - look at some of the rakes she drags around the country - no ones bemoaning the fact that the rake isn't silver with a beaver tail observation car!
Any way she'll look good on the pullmans, as ever.

I'm looking forward to this event. With any luck 34007 Wadebridge will be facing the other way round after her trip to the Great Central Railway in October. If Colin is reading this. Please can we have her facing out of Alresford when she comes back from the GC. Now that would be the icing on the cake for me.

    Cheers

It has turned into an interesting line up for the Gala indeed . A a whole gambit of curious colours to boot !!
A LNER Blue A4, so what it didnt look right on the MHR Stock in BR Green either !
Britania in un lined Black it looks like a big wheeled 9F !
The N2 what ever colour it could be in it never ran with green mk1s did it?
And 60163 well maybe one of them did haul a SR set up country .
The Spring Gala had just as much variety.
However with this variety of locos let alone colours the visitors will be very happy I hope and support the railway to the full.
Here are recent pictures August pictures of 70000 and 60019 .

    I do hope so.

Look forward to seeing a time table in the not to distance future. With this gala being later in the year there maybe a good chance of a Autumn look around the railway. Let's hope the leafs are changing colour by then. Could make from some great photos with some autumn colours. I always like this time of year for photographing around the railway.

Agreed, it would certainly make a refreshing change to see her facing the other way.

Now it just begs the question - which way will the 9F be facing when she comes back from the SVR?

Maybe we will see a swap round of directions .... 9F out of Alton for the Santas .
5MT out of Alresford on its return from Bitton in October it will ring the changes and with the loss of 73096 at the end of September it would make sense to have that at the Alresford end for Santa services as the Std 5 was the Alresford Santa engine.
On a livery thought will the Black 5 become a Green 5 in Mid Brunswick Green ( Henry) in the future for Thomas events time will tell.

Just what would the purists say! (though I wouldn't mind)

Definitely a good idea to ring the changes, will be nice to see the resident engines facing in the opposite direction.

No I do not currently volunteer
    A green Black Five..........
It's been done before, 44932 carried green for a while:http://www.train-photos.com/picture/number8761.asp

Looks like this is going to be a great event. One of the best Gala line-ups the MHR has ever had. Can't believe some of the earlier comments on this thread about 4492. It seems some people are never satisfied.

I'd forgotten about that, still like I said - I dont have a problem with it, heck - they could paint it Crimson Lake if they want! - (Suits the 8F) That'd get the purists foaming at the mouth LoL!

As for the Gala (with the disappointment of Barrow Hill behind me), it is certainly shaping up to be a very good one indeed.

I wonder if they will have the freight train out this time as well as the box vans & crane - would certainly liven up the non passenger workings.

Is Henry the Green engine not a Black 5 anyway??? . Indeed He is!! so quite prototypical even if he never existed in real life. he exists for many thousands of children young and old.

Its such a shame you cant just swap the bodies around like a Hornby Loco lol .

I remember being told that 45379 will carry LMS on the tender at some point within the next ten years.
