MNR have just announced a mini gala on 28th Feb 2009, you could look at this good or bad.
Bad, it may distract some more diesel loving people to the MNR gala as from a diesel point of view it sounds quite good. However the M&GN gala is over two weekends so it may persuade some diesel people from far away to go to the MNR gala and then pop over to NNR the next day or weekend. :-k

I do know where I will be on 28th Feb 2009 though. \:D/

I'll vote for GOOD. For those people who live further off, two events in Norfolk on the same weekend may well persuade them to make the journey.

'Old Boys reunion'. We haven't planned anything formal (yet, if this changes I'll let you know), but there will be several former railwaymen about during the first weekend (27th Feb–1st March).

Steam Railway have published a number of articles on the NNR/M&GN this month, and readers get £1 off the Gala ticket price. Has anybody got the mag yet?

If anyone is in north Norfolk this coming Wednesday (11th), a trip to Melton Constable would be worthwhile. LMS 4F 44422 is making a short detour on its way to the North Norfolk Railway and will be posed outside the old M&GN Carriage Workshops in the village. Melton is really worth a visit for anyone coming over to Norfolk for the 'That's Yer Lot' gala. It's a 'Midlands' railway village in the middle of the Norfolk countryside. Complete with terraced streets and the main buildings from a railway works. The old works complex and 1950s locoshed still stand (are used to store potatoes out of season). A fascinating industrial treasure.

Unfortunately not - got to work. :smt022

Did though, get the 3F there back in May 1993 when celebrating the 100th anniversary of the formation of the M&GN. Not sure though that you can get a loco in front of the loco shops now. I think the 4F is going to be in front of the C&W shops (top right).

After seeing the article in SR yesterday all I can say is I really wish I was coming. Unfortunatly circumstances don't permit it but I wish all you guys at the NNR the best of luck for the gala and hope to come up at some point later in the year!

    NEW FLASH!

Due to the bad weather at the CVR (or what's left of it) 44422 might now not be coming until later in the week, so Melton might be off the agenda! :(

Dave, have you seen Mike Snow's (Steam on the Web) latest video (featuring a certain plucky saddle tank)? Some loverly morning shots too. (http://steamontheweb.co.uk/Churnet Valley/Churnet_Valley.htm)
