IOS have acquired more MK1's (33) than MK2's (19) so id say they must be fairly confident of using them for the foreseeable future or they wouldn't of bought them.

I think a great many people would share those wishes but a few prominent denizens of NP not usually noted for keeping their own counsel are so far notable for lack of comment at the announcement - odd :-? What's not to like?
Looks like a battle royale between millionaires with different ways of doing things. Interesting times as they say.

Didn't realise how much stock they'd accquired, that's pretty impressive. (And must have cost a few quid!)

One that interests me is the ex SVR 1883, the MK1's bar car. It will be nice to see it on the mainline, its pressure ventilation should work better than at 25mph!

Is 1883 the griddle car? I used to quite like that.

Any idea why it left the SVR?

It was sold by the SVR Buffet car fund to provide finance towards the overhaul of 1682 (the Venturer RB)

55005 would be very popular, where has it been hiding since 1982?

    55005 was cut-up at Doncaster Works 02/83.

I can see the day when only air braked stock will be allowed on principal routes and anything that is solely vacuum will be restricted to secondary and other non-intensive routes. Obviously that will also limit these routes to locos that have an air brake option. IoS will be fine in that respect.

As with most things commercial considerations will prevail so if work is offered and it stacks up financially, and logistically, then probably.

Strangely two FOs previously repainted Carmine and Cream have already been repainted into "Pullman" livery for the Statesman set which had been made up with WCR vehicles and there seems no sign of the long line of ex-preserved coaches going inside for return to main line status.

You can't expect things to happen overnight. They can't all be tackled at once.

One would expect the business to seek self sufficiency as quickly as practicable.

If there were unlimited engineers hanging around waiting for the call, they would be all done at once, I'm sure. However resources have to be managed and I suspect some acquisitions were made with a long term strategy in mind.

In Steam Railway their spokesman is quoted, initially they will have a mixed rake of mk1/2's but plan to have separate mk1 and mk2 rakes. The mixed rake will require a diesel to power the mk2's

If I had a fleet of loco's , coaches and my own TOC I would want to make maximum use of them and bringing in third party engines , would be by exception, rather than a regular occurance

That depends on what numbers constitute a fleet. LSL has not so far managed more than two operational locos very often. Sure they will be sensible enough to maintain good relations with other owners as a contingency measure at least.
