This months steam railway has either an opportunistic discovery, or a substantial loss to the movement...

Apparently a scrap yard in Nottingham has started disposing of a larger belpaire boiler of possible LMS origin. The mag hasn't been able establish from where the boiler has originated and is trying to discover, apparently the yard can't disclose details of the disposer.
The only facts it discussed was that the boiler was a substantial one, and larger than an industrial.

Boiler, frames and driving wheelsets have been moved to a secure location.

I must say, I'm stumped by this one...

How much of a boiler might be the question... If it were actually just the barrel sans tube plates there's an obvious candidate.

The SR article talks about a narrow copper firebox but of a size which implies it is from a 'main line' loco.

An honourable group. Seemingly fated to be like Cassandra; cursed with the ability to prophesy the future accurately but not to be believed!

Could it have been a railway boiler sold for industrial use - it has been known to happen!

Indeed. A prime example being the Bluebell Atlantic project.

You mean like the Brighton Atlantic project? Thank goodness they ignored the naysayers.

would it be wrong to suggest in the absense of news to the contrary to probably be an ex boiler ?

If it's in a scrapyard then it's very unlikely to have to be nailed to its perch!
