Thanks, don't read the beano or dandy! Was there mention of a batch? Could be considerable scope to reduce costs through economies of production in bulk. Must be other 5s likely to need new cylinders in due course.

Couldnt they source a pair from the 8F in Turkey thats being stripped down / scrapped for 44901 ?
(The boiler/tender/pony wheels seem to be claimed already)... cylinders still spare ?

Would need shimming out. Different frame thickness.

Kevin West has nearly finished the CAD work for the outside cylinders to be cast from Poly Patterns. If any other groups from black 5s need the file contact Kevin. He is also available for contract work if other locos want CAD work doing.

Outside motion being attended to as well as original features being added to return 5025 to 'as built' condition, such as the cross-head vacuum pumps.

Bottom half looks to be coming along nicely. It will be nice to see this Black 'un back in steam, I remember it on the KWVR when I was still a very young nipper, double-heading with 45212.

Was that just after it's overhaul at Hunslet? Crikey that must have been in the early 1970's! Just out of interest how did 5025 get to Avimore from Keighley? Was it a low loader or under its own power?

5025 has been at the Strathspey Railway since the mid 1970s ( it's not in the 1973 IRS handbook but is listed in the 1976 edition ).
In those far less regulated days I would assume the loco was towed north from Keighley but it would be interesting to find out if anyone knows when that occurred or if indeed it was moved by road.

The loco was main line approved for a short while in the early 80s running on the Highland main line and to Kyle of Lochalsh; here at Welsh's Bridge Inverness with the stock for the Ravens Rock Express on 25th September 1982 .

While progress is being made on the fiddly bits of the locomotive, such as sanding pipework, the tender body was taken outside last week to be shotblasted before priming.

The tender has since been moved into the carriage and wagon shed and the first coats of primer being applied over the weekend.

Excellent news! It will be really nice to see this Loco in one piece again, and in LMS livery too!
