After them working very hard to achieve the opening date we allowed the extension gang to have last weekend off. However, they are back on site this weekend to start phase 2 - the permanent station.
The work involves removing a small underbridge & filling in the gap, widening a section of embankment to take the island platform & two tracks, creation of a subway through the existing embankment for access to the platform, then building the platform.
Welsh Water have to build a new access road into their sewage works to enable us to fill in the gap in our embankment between the phase 1 temporary platform & the permanent station.
The new track can then be laid & the temporary station removed.
Anybody wishing to help will be made very welcome, but must become a member of the Llangollen Railway Trust for insurance purposes.

Once the rest of the track and run around loop are installed, will the train be able to drop passengers off at the temporary station and then carry on to the loop, runaround and then pull the train back instead of having to push it back to Carrog?

The tracks on both faces of the permanent island platform will form the run round loop, with a headshunt at the west end. The track will not be laid until the platform is complete, so to answer your question all trains using the temporary platform will be either propelled or or topped & tailed.

According to the operating notices there isn't any special speed restriction when propelling. It is 15 mph from Corwen East to Plas Bonwm (the recently laid section which is still bedding in) & 25 mph from Plas Bonwm to Carrog , unless one of our operating staff can advise differently.

I've convinced its either 10 or 15, but cant see it in any of the operating notices on my emails. I've read and signed for it somewhere anyway.

Propelling moves are 15mph in the rule book so must be that.

I'd best look it up as i'm driving it tomorrow!

Info on this weeks NW noticeboard (w/c 16th Feb 2015) about the new railway museum that has opened in Corwen. Set up with the involvement of the NRM's (and Llangollens) Bob Gwynne. Link below.

Right, I'll have to pay a visit to Corwen then.....

Wasn't Corwen (and Glyn) home to Owain Glyndwr? (Hope I've spelt that right)

Will the railway have access to any of the trackbed north on the old Denbigh line? Looking at a map the junction seems to be near the new station? Perhaps it could be used for storage sidings or similar?

I believe that the Denbigh line formation will be needed for a new access road to the water works, to replace the one that currently blocks the 'main' line to the new Corwen station site.

The actual junction was alongside the site for the new platform. The new access road to the sewage works will go through the Denbigh line embankment, although much of the embankment earthworks from this stub will be used to fill in the old access roadway & to widen the embankment at the site of the new station.

Won't they need all the trackbed for the extension to Denbigh? :D

This grant is purely to be spent on construction of the platform & not for any other purpose.
We still need to sell shares to pay for track materials & construction
of the signal box, water tank & platform fixtures.

I wasn't previously aware of this, but in the last 6 months or so a tremendous amount of work has been done on the Corwen permanent station, shown on this Web-site. Congratulations to everyone involved!
