Ah that would make sense, might also shed some light on the frankly peculiar zig zag route up the country she is taking....

0507 departure from the Bluebell - 0028 arrival in Darlington, that's quite the day out!

Bit too much for me now, long days were the norm when I was a 'knight of he road. I reckon that 'shift' would need 3 loco. crews, (and for the support lads they'd need a fair bit of stamina. When it got to Darlington there'd be a fair bit to do putting the loco to bed.

45407 The Lancashire Fusilier seen passing a very windy and dull Starricks Farm on route to Northallerton.

You say that Ian but it’s all about finding onward paths eastbound between Reading and Southall - given the plethora of Elizabeth line trains, Stone and Freightliner workings as well as GWR service trains.
    Schedulers nightmare!

Presumably also means the loco doesn't need turning before the trip to York - can lead the ECS to Ferme Park then reverse into King's Cross.

There's also Heathrow Express and Crossrail services to the airport to consider when coming from the London direction, as well as crossing from the up side to the down main to access Southall. Whichever direction, it's not easy!
