I know it’s a class 8 on a seemingly light(ish) load... but I thought it was fast going over Shap. 37 certainly helped...

Well it’s going faster than the 37 would have with the same load.

The 37 was doing a lot of work when I saw it at Barrow Mill and Bessy Gill.

I thought he was going to concentrate on other matters but clearly not the case if he's at the fore front of commercial matters. Just commercial matters.....?

It's good to see the transfer of Tornado to Doncaster on the move and hopefully the attempt by DBC to accelerate the time frame for the journey, as seems the case at present, continues apace. Can't help but think that the A1ST support crew would appreciate as long as possible tonight at Doncaster to prep the loco thoroughly for tomorrow. Here's hoping and for an uneventful day. It's what the A1ST needs at present.

I think Mr R Smith is cast in the same mould as Bill Andrews.
9 years ago now Ron Smith took Mr & Mrs V Wakefield to London with 46115 (White Rose)and a damn fine job the footplate men did.

That's a relief to to hear for all of us now that 60163 is back in action again good luck to D.B.C. and West Coast moving her to 36A Doncaster and prepping her tonight at Belmont yard. Many more merry A1 steam loco trust tours to come in 2019. :)

She was about half an hour early when entering the track diagram 'black hole' at Wetheral. Look forward to seeing her emerge on the other side at Blaydon in due course!

Good to see co operation between A1 trust, West Coast and DBC , So does this mean that West coast have accepted Tornado and have no concerns now about operating her, or was this a one off? if 60163 is now accepted by both main steam TOC'S It would certainly increase the market for her

No such luck. According to Realtime Trains the A1 arrived an hour early at Tyne S.S. (11:50) but didn't depart until 14:13 (17 early). At Darlington it was right time. <BJ>
