After a fruitless morning waiting for 45231, waiting to see if the afternoon path was taken paid off.
The Black 5 left Crewe for Chester one minute late and despite what RTT says the run was not cancelled, the return trip was 8 minutes early off Chester and 13 early by Beeston where I think it was checked having caught up the preceding service.
A return to old haunts at Beeston and Tarporley old station.
Sounding good but the tender appears to have acquired something bulbous to go with the new pipes on the front

Thanks Matt, it's intriguing to see how adapting to the modern world changes the appearance of some locos, some subtly and some less so. I only noticed that when I worked on the shot, maybe get a better look tomorrow.
As for tomorrow, the path is still in RTT, if it doesn't go I guess there will be a knock on to other plans !

Hardly, there’s 3 air braked black fives out there already and they don’t have the res tanks on the back of the tender. I’m sure they have their reasons for fitting them there, but that looks pants.

Is there any pics of how 45231 looks after her recent overhaul?

The first run this morning didn't go - someone posted above that it looked like the loco went back to the depot.
The second run did go all the way to Chester - trust me you can see the picture above on the return trip! :)

I have no idea why RTT says the second run to Chester was cancelled that puzzled me too - but it certainly wasn't.
