I believe there are two locos in steam today, Leander must be one but no idea yet what the other is, Galatea as backup maybe?

eww, to hear that both of them are in steam !! Maybe Galatea isn't in reserve, running as 1st advertised? Or wishful thinking on my part.

Today is Thursday, no announcement of 45407 move
CME on Saturday this is getting interesting.

Thats a turn up. Reliably informed it was undergoing repairs and in winter storage which is why it isn't on the WCME this week.

This is what IR said too.

& re. 45407, IR has posted piccys & an update showing it being lit ready for its FTR tomorrow. He's also said that it'll be going LE from Castleton to Manchester on Saturday morning.

Galatea was not going to be on this trip for some time but the gossip mongers always have their say .

To be fair the gossip was started by RTC advertising 45699 even though it was never going to be available and continuing to do so while those in the know had said the black 5 was on it. It sounds like 45699 was not even formally requested in the first place.
All of which makes the story of a steam test for 45699 a bit of mischievous timing.

Or was it strategic timing as back up in case of failure of 45690 ?

As said previously, 45699 was not available for the wcme so how could it be reserve loco? I think the story of a steam test is just that, a tease.

They were both in steam at carnforth yesterday!! So it's not a tease but for what reason 45699 was in steam I have no idea

RTT shows 46233 17 mins early at Lichfield Trent Valley, on her way to Carnforth for tomorrow's CME. Has anyone been out to see her?

At least it's reassuring to know that she is on the way. I've nothing against a Carnforth loco as a last minute replacement but when a Duchess is on offer it really is no contest. Looking forward to the CME tomorrow.
