Thanks for allowing the post - the magazines make their own reputations.

The regard in which they are held is created by what they deliver and how they deliver it.

Just to point out, I started this thread originally because my subscription copy of the latest Steam Railway failed to arrive on schedule (for the first time, eventually arrived a week late) & I wanted to find out if anyone else was having the same problems. It seems quite a few people were. I put it in the General railway chat section because I felt it was the most appropriate section & at the time the Steam Railway topic had not been re-instated in Media Corner (as far as I am aware). It wasn't my intention for this thread to turn into a discussion about the magazine itself, it's contents or it's editorial staff & writers.

What do people think of the Steam Railway "Western Celebration" supplement?

Again, I've had the same as buseng, with my copy turning up the day after I ordered a replacement issue. The replacement issue arrived a week later, but it was the previous issue that turned up. As the replacement issue is not now needed, I'll be passing it on to someone who does not get Steam Railway.

In complete contrast, my copy of Model Rail arrived a week early!

We'll see if these delivery issues continue or have been made worse by the snow as the new issue is out next week

My copy of the new issue (No.383) arrived in the post today, two days before it is due out in the shops. Hopefully the lateness of the last issue will be a 'one off'.

Hells Bells! My copy of issue 383 Dec 10th-Jan 6th thundered onto the doormat at lunchtime, a whole 2 days before cover date, hasn't been that early for six months or more. A digit has been extracted from somewhere!:flypig:

I've received my copy of Steam Railway 383 today. 60007 on the Tynesider on the cover.

Things seem to be back to normal (at least for me anyway)

    Mine arrived today too.

It would appear that someone at Steam Railway has been listening to us.

    Fair play to them.

Mine arrived today, if you like preserved Black 5s you cant go wrong with this issue... at least 20 pictures.
I counted 8 pictures just of 45305.. 5 of them just of the trip to Euston.

Also it suggests things are looking up at Bury.. with 80080 going for 12 months and 73129 for 3 months with 45337 staying "for the longer term" and 13065 being ready by May.
There's also pictures of the overhauled tender for 13065 in LMS red, you wait 50 years for a red crab and then 2 come along at once...

Given the vagueries of overseas post for magazine subscriptions, a week after the pub date would be awesome!! (all kidding aside, i understand why people would be annoyed at paying for a subscription and not getting it or getting it really late), but given I am used to a minimum 2 weeks past the publication date for it reaching Canada, as long as it arrives its all good.

As well, it's not been uncommon for me when I've made trips to the UK to just receive an issue before i leave, read it on the flight, get the next issue at the airport upon arrival in the UK, and get another new issue before returning home and wind up being 1 or 2 mailed copies ahead at the end of a trip!!!

At least its always something to look forward to getting in my mailbox when my UK subscriptions arrive rather than all the flyers and junkmail and political crap and bills that normally fill my mailbox, the couple of times a month a big clear bag with a dose of UK railway news and photography in it is always a pick me up at the end of a work day!!

As the instigator of the original problem, I can also say mine arrived today as well.

As someone in the delivery business all I can say is that you guys are lucky, I have had a package on a '2' day delivery to the north of Scotland since last Friday, it is hoped it will arrive this week. My customer here in mid Cheshire cannot understand what is causing the delay.
The backlog of deliveries in many areas of Scotland is still a week, if the weather improves. You may not have heard but I believe the M8, the motorway between Edinburgh and Galsgow was closed for over 48 hours.:smow:

Ralph - the snow in Scotland has been something else - no trains north of Glasgow / Edinburgh since last week - but there again I have also had a few issues this week with silly people from the lowlands who think that travel in these conditions is a doddle, and perfectly risk free - cretins!

My daughter had to take refuge in Linlithgow because she couldn't get back to Airdrie from Edinburgh on Monday - the snow was only around three feet deep at the house where she stayed and they had to dig the car out in the morning after a wek of inactivity.

Looking at the 13065 tender, does anyone else think that the font used for the number is wrong? Studying pictures of the original maroon crabs the numbers they carried seem to be in the old midland font, as can be seen on 1000, which is much thinner. The font used on 13065's tender looks thicker, more like the later LMS lettering.
