It's also incredibly tourism focused, I seem to recollect reading somewhere during covid that the vast majority of their passenger businesses comes via pre booked coach parties, in the main from overseas.

I’ve been a couple of times, it’s just non stop bus loads of tourists, many from abroad, who then do either a boat trip at Lakeside or the Aquarium before getting train back. Windermere and all around the Lakes was also the same. That was before Covid mind but doubt it’s changed much! I filmed there last time I went and it’s completely different from other heritage railways, perhaps only Dartmouth is similar.

I went last year and found it very similar to my only previous visit about 10 years ago. Both times the Fairburns have been in the shed - although very clearly not enthusiast focused the railway does keep the shed open for viewing which is appreciated. If there was ever an enthusiast event there I would definitely want to go, but I do appreciate that is very unlikely to happen.

It is quite commercially focused, however I volunteered there for a time when I was based close by with work and found it to be a really friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

I would describe the operation as slick- and geared up for dealing with coach parties, however all the staff (and the volunteers) were definitely there for the love of it.

The summer I was about, 42073 was out quite a lot, 42085 less so, but she was away for a bit at the NRM, I helped deep clean her before she went. 42073 was sharing most of the work with Repulse and Princess.

Interesting opening weekend with Leander and Ivatt 46441 both confirmed as running. Taking alternate passenger trains on Saturday and Sunday.

Bleeding heck, that's a lot of transporting her about for one weekend! Better get my bike out and my backside up there to see her then.

Very enjoyable Lee, Leander fits in so well on the Lakeside Branch, especially on a sunny day in Spring, many thanks for sharing.
