Bit of a longshot, but am in the area next week and am hoping to visit the railway - just wondered if anyone may know what the loco roster is likely to be? Also presume everything faces into Lakeside bar the Fairburn.

Thank-you, not seen Victor or 1245 previously so fingers crossed for either of them!

Think both Fairburns are OOS now, but they’d be far better utilised elsewhere. No need for Class 4 tanks on the L&HR

At the end of the day, the owners of the Fairburns decide they want to keep them at the L&HR.

A lot of things would be better elsewhere but unless you’re the owner they can do what they please.

"would be better" - in your eyes, yes, in the owners' eyes, no. These are not toys for "us" to play with...but someone's investment of time, effort and moneby. They will want to look after themn appropritately. I remember Geralnd Boden expalingi his investment of 500k in to Mayflower "I rather think I have a say in where it goes, don't you?" He said

And if they went elsewhere be probably at the back of an overhaul queue. At least the current owner seems interested in them and actually seems to be restoring in turn.

Doesn't the family that owns the Fairburn's also own the LHR ?

Isn't the Lakeside a privately owned paid staff only set up anyway like the Dartmouth Steam Railway?

It is privately owned and commercially focused but the newsletters, in the above link, make it clear that volunteers are also involved and encouraged.

However there is no longer a volunteer society since the L&HR parted company with the Furness Railway Trust (now based at Ribble) a few years ago.
