Appears that Northern are just running between Whitehaven-Carlisle on the northern section.

RTT continues to show a return down the coast, the only Saturday train scheduled to run the whole route. Service trains are replaced by buses between Sellafield and Millom - so ???

Possession lifts at 1630 for us then goes back on at 1730 after us.

Its re planned engineering work after the train was bid and offered.

Just passed the Lakelander set for today on the outskirts of Leeds. Black Class 57 leading the ECS in to Leeds, followed by all MK1s, except the last coach which was a Statesman Pullman, then a Green 47 on the rear.

The Lakelander caught me back up at Manchester. 47 leading, should come off at Preston. Leaving the Black 57 trailing for the run to Carlisle and return.

Just a reminder to all that Dave Day is happening in Barrow-in-Furness when many thousands of bikers are expected to be in attendance. Roads in the area, particularly the A590 will be heavily congested around the time the Lakelander passes through South Cumbria. Allow extra time if wanting to see at lineside, particularly along Park South, Barrow, Dalton, Lindal and Ulverston. Some usual locations may not be possible today due the the sheer numbers involved with Dave Day.

This morning the weather was a bit of a teaser for old Oswald, frequent showers and sunny intervals. Diego was also a bit of a tease, he came in and had a drink and a light snack then went out. Then he came in again by which time Mrs W(oodpecker) was up and about so she could take charge of the cat (as much as anyone can). My (short) list of possible locations had to be re-assessed as my knee was playing up, not too far to walk was a must. I chose the safe option of Oxenholme.

Having loaded up I headed along the M65 then north on the M6. (The standard of motorway driving has dropped over the years, indicators have become optional as fast moving vehicles drift from lane to lane or lurch off onto a slip road. Some of those who do use them seem to think that putting the right hand indicator on makes it safe to move out into an almost non-existent gap in very fast moving traffic. Best of all was a guy in an open-topped BMW sports car who made frequent use of both indicators as he moved between middle and right hand lanes, sometimes overtaking, other times undertaking. Moan over.) Heading north the weather had been variable, rain, sunshine, spray from the road and some dry stretches. North of Lancaster there was a marked improvement with plenty of sunshine but crossing into Cumbria another heavy shower. I arrived at Oxenholme and there were plenty of spaces on the station car park.

With a little over 40 minutes before the first steamer was due I gathered up my bits and pieces and headed to the north end of platform 1. There was I guy there who I have met several times before, a retired Longsight driver who it is always a pleasure to talk with. As I readied myself the Tesco train headed north and service trains came and went.

Not long before Braunton was due there was the sound of an approaching train from the north and shortly afterwards 66623 hurtled south with a "Quarry Train". Only 60 seconds after it had disappeared from view came a whistle from the approaching Braunton - Lucky Oswald! The sun had disappeared (Poor Oswald!) but 34046 still made a great site as she leaned to the curve, she hurried her carriages through the platforms and away to the north. On the rear was a diesel that I don't recall seeing before, 57.311 looking the "business" in lined black livery. The train headed off into the distance and Oswald headed down to the south end of the platform for Tangmere . . . . 13C, 2E & 49mph
