we the claud have not come to an agreement to use the wheel cast for leading bogies, they have however offered it to us if its suitable to use of which we are currently looking into, we may also work alongside them for other components.

One of our members recently visited the NRM York and obtained drawings and made us more known to the museum, we will be returning as a group to get more later in the year.

Of course making ourselves known and fundraising comes before building, it will take time but we will get there, as they say nothing happens overnight

As far as I'm aware, the F5 doesn't have a leading bogie - it was a 2-4-2T! So, of limited usefulness for a 4-4-0 tender engine then, unless you are referring to the wheel castings, which may be the same size etc. But it doesn't bode well for the project if you don't know the difference!

A few typos on the website but good grammar and spelling will improve with time (no doubt!). Despite what others may say on this forum (and they are of course perfectly entitled to do so) I believe that this project has youth on its side and the experiences that these young people will have over the next 2 or 3 years will stand them in a good position. I think one concern, which is perhaps understandable, is that they will learn from their experiences at the expense of other peoples' donations to the J39 project but I'm hopeful that they will demonstrate otherwise.
Rather like 82045, which has a wide "market" for heritage lines, I'm sure that several LNER/BR(E) themed heritage lines would welcome a "common" but otherwise extinct type such as the J39. Therefore I believe that this project does have some potential and that the resultant locomotive could be a "useful" type; not glamorous perhaps but useful and, from the look of the photographs, quite an impressive machine ( I never saw J39s in service sadly). I'm too involved in supporting a couple of other new-builds to put finances into the J39 but I'm sure that, once the credibility tipping point is reached, people will come forward and we may well see something good here. These young people belong to a "want it now" generation and that is not always a disadvantage! (OK I'm generalising!)

They may be young but not that much younger than Daniel Gooch who apparently was appointed Locomotive Superintendent of the GWR by Brunel at the age of 21.

They are also young enough to observe and learn from the pitfalls of ongoing new-build projects, and should have the flexibility to avoid them when it comes to working with metal. As long as they do their research and can identify potential running issues (ie. the hot axleboxes), businesses that can fabricate the parts and sources of funding/sponsorship, there's no reason why this project might not leapfrog some of the other projects out there. Get all the groundwork done now, and you'll reap the dividends later on. Good luck.

From the 'new' website (which still hasn't been checked for spelling/grammar):

Sorry guys, but with a lack of professional presentation, refusal to listen to what others are saying (see naming debate on facebook page), still no mention of other experienced engineers involved and quite frankly eye watering membership fees, I fear you have sunk your own project.

I will say this - I would not start even offering membership fees until several points of contention have been addressed. Funding through annual "club" type memberships in this way will not improve the financial prospects of the group particularly, especially if it DOES go nowhere and people start (rightly) asking for their money back.

I would advise a rethink and further thought is in order.

Please let it be known that the group is still administration stages, and nothing is going to be perfect, I.E. the grammar on the website, and the membership fees. We are however, carrying on, no matter what people say, as we strongly believe that this class of locomotive will find its place in the preservation world, and we strongly believe that there is enough support out there to make this project feasable.

Can children use paypal?? i honestly dont know. And your after some pretty wealthy/generous children asking for £36 pounds per year. So people cant even join as just a member? you have to be a monthly donor? How can you say your in your admin stages when your paypal actually works and you can take money off people? have you regestered your company yet? if not surely your breaking the law?? Your going to be producing a monthly newsletter???? how much will you be spending of producing this? most groups do it quarterly to save on costs? Discounts on your merchandise??? jesus you dont make much on merchandise (and believe me i know, as sales stands are only there to promote the project really) so youll make nothing if you get discounts? Free entry to your events? what sort of events do you plan on doing and if you let members in free youll again make less money as you will only get members in the first place??

Ill be honest you really worry me as im starting to think your acting ilegally.

Please do not take this the wrong way, I am in no way trying to sound rude, but I honestly think you should try being the head of one of these groups, or even setting one up, it is extrememly hard as it is, and I do not feel that some of the comments posted on here are approriate, and do concern me with the level of negativity.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but 95 percent of the board for the claud are under 20, making the majority of them teenagers too, that doesn't seem to have affected their name or put people off supporting.
