This has been running on the GCR for several years, but was withdrawn for its "10 year " exam in 2022. It is now in Loughborough shed and is being stripped down.

More parts have been removed from the Ivatt class 2 and soon the boiler will be lifted.

The strip down has continued but it is said that the compete engine will go to Tyseley for overhaul in a week or so's time.

Has the tender from 46521 gone to Tyseley as well or has it remained on the GCR?

It was actually one of the saddest days of my life when 46521 was withdrawn, the only Ivatt Class 2 mogul painted in Western green. :(
    Here's to a speedy return! :)

If that was one of the saddest days of your life, then you should brace yourself for the experience known as "life"

It’s hardly like it went to a scrapyard unlike the first time it was withdrawn was it?

Ha! Ha! You're the comic genius. :Meh:

My mistake, It should have had "Preserved" in it somewhere.

Not that I think it carried it in BR service, 46512 wore BR Green while at SVR/ Hereford.

46521 did in fact carry the BR lined green livery in BR service. There were still remains of that livery present when it came out of Barry scrapyard.

46512 I don't think did though, but has been green in preservation, so technically 46521 isn't the only one that's been green.

This is still the worst paint froth I've ever seen. A locomotive retired from service and it's apparently a crime because of the paint job. The almost identical 78022 is in green too. Still worse than some diesel frothers out there.

Edit: do I dare post this photo of 46521 in black?

My, you've lived a very sheltered Nat Pres life if this is the worst livery froth you've seen;).

Certainly in recent memory and localised to one post. I'm aware theres been running street battles on NP over paint and howls in other corners of the internet that a specific loco should be saved because of its livery which I will confess to having being somewhat guilty of before but I try to be rational the same paint could be applied to another loco.

    Noted.
But between, me, you and the shed wall - I don’t think Strathspey have any intention of painting 46512 BR green or sending it to England... or Wales.

Please don't suggest it as the next livery variation.

I think we should see it as it was in ‘the 7% solution’… ;)
