It doesn't seem to have been widely reported in the media, but I noticed that Ian Allan passed away on 28th June (2015), one day short of his 93rd birthday.

Where would our hobby have been without his books?

Not mentioned on here I agree. I learnt about it on the day from an aircraft enthusiast's forum. The news was then on the WNXX forum.
