Just shows how closely you relate things, the NP logo is rectangular, so headboard is rectangular. QED.

This one?, pic taken on the outskirts of Norwich near the Lakenham cock pub.
Personally i liked it, somthing different.

mmm headboards im not bothered, as others have said passengers on trips stand by the locos and headboards for photos etc as a momento and also used to promote trips such as steam dreams Cathedrals Express's

All named trains (steam hauled) had head boards in BR days, including Boat trains, nothing wrong with headboards!

    Its reliving the past!

Thanks Alberta - Yep this world is becoming stupid! Trouble is my website is not for making money in any way shape or form, this is going to be dedicated to Nine Elms enginemen... I just need these 2 headboards which operated from Waterloo to turn in to a Flash file for my site.

Some TOCs own the right to use names etc.

An Example, "The Royal Scot" is in the hands of West Coast Trains Ltd. Virgin Trains permitted tour operator The Railway Touring Company and Riviera Trains the stock owner to rebrand the blood n custard set last year.

Re-living the past? Now, at long last, we're beginning to hit the nail on the head! Loco livery-wise apart, at least the BR era "The Royal Scot" and "The Caledonian" headboards usually manage to appear on indigenous motive power, running along indigenous routes. No-one can have any real objections to that!

It's these crudely hand-painted offerings that have proliferated in recent years, bearing little semblance to anything at all, that really pi** people off ... and, in that latter sentiment, I am not only referring to lineside photographers here, by any means!!

Examples? Well, witness some of the garbage that appeared at Llangollen last week! No, gentlemen, I wasn't specifically referring to the Nat-Pres board, be that have been rectangular, triangular or trapezoidal ... there were some other considerably more horrific (indeed, embarrassing) offerings being displayed ... and on equally inappropriate motive power!

Incidentally, "all named trains (steam hauled) had headboards in BR days, including Boat trains" is not an entirely accurate statement per se. The "Belfast Boat Express" was one for which BR never provided other than carriage roofboards and I am aware of at least two other similar examples.

Yes I am an active volunteer
And which ones offend you most ?

One of or volunteers put a lot of work into recreating some of those headboards, and we tried where possible to fit them on suitable motive power. If you feel you can do better, or if not are prepared to pay for full cast ones, then we will await your efforts.

Personally I felt some of the headboards looked spot on, the RCTS one in my mind looked great especially on 44801.

what is the problem, honestly, its a ******* headboard for christ's sake!!!!!!

If it was a photo charter it wouldn't be right but i don't believe last week was?!!? Also thanks to the Llangollen boys for fitting the Camrian Coast Express headboard to 9017 last weekend,i think it looked a treat and can only thank you for that!!

You complain as if the headboard said "Mr Blobbys big day out" or something!

I'm sure I saw a picture of the ASDA express somewhere, looked rather silly but If they sponsored it then fine.

Some where there is a photo of me beside 257 Squadron with a 40th birthday head board. It was something special for a day when I had the train and loco for my birthday celebrations. \:D/

Yep okay not original!! ](*,) - I prefer original boards as well as suitable discs when taking photos - Catches the atmosphere and even better when put into Black and White which is if the mood is right in the shot how people like to see the end shot!
