    One assumes that the Railcar 'ran round' the autocoach at both ends of the journey.

    Yes I am an active volunteer
    I believe these were diesel-mechanical with a fluid flywheel. Certainly not diesel electric.

    Yes. There was certainly space to do that at Lambourn and Newbury. Incidentally, there's a photo somewhere of a railcar at Lambourn with both an autocoach and a clerestory coach as the tail load.
