I see that 45596 and 45690, two ex Barry locomotives, are showing on RTT as being stabled at Barry Tourist Railway on Wednesday

Apologies should have checked. 45596 wasn't at Barry

I have heard from informed passengers on the train that it will be BIL plus diesel tomorrow and BIL only the day after.

So diesel because of fire risk?

I do not know if it is due to fire or coal.

Think it is a good choice for 35018 to do the honors Monday-Tuesday.

Well, after the Heaton to Berwick run, Carstairs to Lockerbie, 48 miles in 55 mins over Beattock should be a good section for BIL. I wish I was there guys, but not this time.

Last I heard it is likely to be 46115 on Tuesday. 35018 is out today and would not have much time to be prepped for the following day whereas 46115 is on shed all day today which gives more time for for its support crew to prep for an early start on Tuesday. But this could yet change - again

So according to the paying customers on the train there is no definitive info about motive power on Mon and Tues and if it's different from the plan why it's different.

Does it matter? Obviously some people don't think it does. "Just give us your money and be grateful it's steam."

I'd be surprised if that's the case given the RTC folk on board but it really is odd that uncertainty still seems to be out there.

I think the average punter is just pleased it’s steam. Perhaps you might like to put yourself in the position of the support crew, spend all day before the run preparing and coaling the engine, get up at silly o’clock the next morning to get ready for the trip and spend all day looking after it before putting it to bed at the end. Would you then want to repeat it all the next day when there is a fresh engine and crew available?
It’s these people that you should be thanking for making steam possible.

Just so although all these crew related factors are part of good planning are they not?

But we are in danger of falling into two camps here with the same people always supporting each other's comments, reading what they want to read and interpreting any alternative view as hostile. What makes me smile are those who seldom travel, if at all, and just go out with a camera. What say should they have in this specific debate?

Enough to say that Monday is a mixed traction day in the cloud and damp of central Scotland. All going to Plan B it seems. Nice that BIL will be in EDB again.

If folk who don’t travel much on tours didn’t post on NP it would be pretty dull as 99% of us are lineside or just enthusiasts :)
