What, as in a news reporting thread for F&WHR and WHHR to report news when there is news worth reporting?

New king point and WHR loop point positioned over the weekend despite snow and sub-zero temperatures.
First shot looking towards Porthmadog with the nose of the king point in the foreground. WHR loop point is in the distance. The existing FR main line will become the WHR runround loop.
Second pic looking towards Boston Lodge with a king point sleeper on a rail skate in the foreground. A pair of RRMs sits at the stop block on the Cob main line.

Good news about the installation of the king point for the WHR/FR junction on the Cob. Looking at the arrangement they're putting forward, is there going to be something to protect the FR main line from unauthorized movement on the WHR platform lines? There looks to be room to put in a trap point but how would one prevent derailed stock going over the footpath, through the side wall and off the retaining wall down onto the main road below?

Protection is provided by signalling, which drivers will obey! In any risk assessment, the view would be that allowing the points to be trailed involved less risk than trap points which would, in any event, not be permitted if they had the effect of diverting stock across a footpath and onto a carriageway below. See the track diagrams at: Maintenance - Harbour station works

Unless it is just a long camera lens closing things up there does not look to be a lot of room between the 2 points for the length of a NGG16 and to remain clear of the FR line.

The track plan displayed at Maintenance - Harbour station works shows a Garratt parked clear of fouling points.

Yes there is room for both FR and WHR trains to terminate without interfering with each other. Otherwise the whole exercise would be a little pointless.

It will not be possible to run round a WHR without the king point being set for the WHR, in other words the run round can not be independent of the FR, but arrival and departure can. The compromise was a 12 carr platform or an independent run round. BTW, the signalling will protect the FR main line so there could still be a train on the FR main line between Minffordd and the home signal as the WHR runs round.

    Regards

    Peter

    Cheers Peter.

That makes more sense, I had seen the plans, and was aware that if a telephoto lens was used, it can compress distances, hence the question.

Looks like things are moving along at a rapid pace then, though I will be a bit sad to loose the current configuration - I've always enjoyed how the platform at Port merged seamlessly into the Cob footpath.

There is no such thing as an ugly steam loco!

I have to change trains at Paddington on my way to the Keighley and Worth Valley gala later this week; looking forward to seeing the Princess.

Cross? We were bloody livid. The track was deemed necessary as the structural engineers were concerned at the floor loadings of the low loader which they reckoned could have seen Princess on permanent display in the Bakerloo Line booking office below it...

Pony is sanded down and awaiting her new green livery. Patterns for new spectacle glasses have been 3D printed - Boston Lodge has been introducing new technology since 1847.

Surprisingly accurate article in the Daily Mail - a few oddities but on the whole impressive. How close is it to the FR's press release?

The only bad habit that crops up throughout (and really annoys me) is the lack of the definite article before the FR's name. It's a modern thing - Network Rail, Chiltern, FGW - all companies, no need for it - but the FR - a physical railway.
