Hi all, newbie here... I'm planning to visit Foxfield on Sunday, and I note that Caverswall Road is open from "early", the first trains leave there at 09:00(ish) but the first passenger services don't depart until 10:00. I also see the first freight from the colliery is at 09:45. As my main objective is watching the activity on the bank, it's clear using the first passenger train from Caverswall Road won't cut it in terms of watching all of the day's the activity on the bank. So is it best to drive to the colliery site and work from there? Or is there a bus from Carverswall Road to the colliery before 09:45? Must admit that lacking a train and bus timetable (and not knowing the lie of the land) it's difficult to plan this one well. Any help would be appreciated.

As a regular visitor the usual arrangement is that the shed allows visitors to photograph from around 08:00; my personal itinerary is to visit the shed, purchase a ticket (used as a Parking Ticket for the colliery) then drive to the colliery and base myself there for the rest of the day. That gives access to the whole bank including Dilhorne (access by footpath) and should give the best sighting of workings.

All I would add Fred (as that is what I normally do although can't make it this year) is at the last Autumn Gala they had stopped people wandering around the shed yard in the morning.

Any chance a volunteer or someone who has visited today can confirm if you can buy tickets at the colliery end?

    Many thanks,

Lovely day today at the Foxfield railway with some sun towards the end,

My only slight gripe, any possibility for future galas if anyone who is riding on the trains they could not wear a hi vis? Given the goods are more for the photographic draw and many like myself spent my £15 to be there it isn't asking much for the people on board to quickly remove their hi vis whilst on the train and put it back on when needed trackside. The majority of my photos of the goods climbing the bank has the same bloke hanging out in a hi vis.

A quick shot of the Well Tanks final run out of Foxfield...

The Foxfield Railway during their Summer Steam Gala and 3P20 early morning photo charter. Visiting the railway was 0-6-0ST 'Brookes No.1' from the Middleton Railway.
