Looking at the recent photos, the vacuum pipe has been reinstated on the front buffer beam - it wasn't present prior to the overhaul, so, unless it's just been restored for cosmetic purposes, I guess the vacuum braking has been restored.

Just wondered what format of dual braking system is now fitted, if its air braked loco with proportional vacuum or vice versa.

I hope the sign on the wall, to the left of the loco, isn't an omen.

One would hope so, otherwise it's expected visit to the SVR for the ASG would be awkward as the Valley doesn't have any air-braked stock, bar some rudds...

I've no idea of what arrangement is currently fitted, I'm afraid. My comment, like yours, was relative to what it had prior to the Southall modifications.

One was timed at 84 mph near Axminster in SR days, according to D.L. Bradley.

The reaction of the permanent way department is not recorded.

30506 was indeed an impressive performer and I had one of my best ever trips over the MHR one Saturday Evening after I had attended one of the AGM's some years ago now.
Members used to get a free return trip over the MHR after the AGM had finished and on one of the last occasions this happened 30506 was rostered for this duty.
Not many members took up the offer for the trip on this occasion as the train was pretty empty (one of the reasons they stopped this?) but those who did travel had one of the most spirited climbs of the bank I have ever witnessed.
I don't know if the loco crew were keen to get back home but 30506 flew up to Medstead from Ropley (at line speed of course, ahem....;)).
The sound from 30506 was astonishing and even people who lived next to the Railway at Four Marks were leaning out of their House windows to see what was coming up the hill in such fashion. They must have heard her leaving Ropley as the sound from the exhaust was that loud. An awesome display of power from the S15 that I have never forgotten.

I wonder if she will appear through a cloud of steam to this song tomorrow at the Press Call?

    Wouldn't Tull's "Locomotive Breath" be more appropriate?..................... ;) :)

Surely Saxon's Princess of the Night would be more appropriate...

If we're going down that road.............. how's about Motorheads "Orgasmatron", if only for the artwork & the song "Riding with the Driver"?!!!! :)

Or...................... Maiden's "Number of the Beast"?................. ;)

Hell, why not just play the lot on a continuous loop & teach the Jorno's what 154 tons/decibels of real heavy metal is....... start off gentle with Tull, play everything in between & finish with the crescendo that would be Motorhead! :D

Given how much the overhaul has cost maybe Floyd's 'Money' would be most appropriate, or Led Zep's Rock and Roll (Been a long time)
