If only the rail operators could create a train out of nothing. Kind of odd that RTT reported a ghost. Thanks for the info/updates

Yes, Anthony. Just Scotsman with the diesel on the rear.

On Saturday trips website says diesel on return but how does 60103 get back to Plymouth for the Evening trip to Cornwall ? Light engine or on the back on the return

Mr. K., the BBC, local stations radio and tv, gave the trip a fair bit of hype, plus it was, by and large a very warm sunny day in South Devon. It was quiet news day I guess. As usual some debatable 'facts' quoted. ;)

The closing pictures, of FS and her companion, was just screened on BBC local tv Devon. I must say that FS was being very mollycoddled; the Black Five was doing all the work from what the film showed.

On the back I assume - there is no light engine movement from Penzance to Plymouth showing on RTT

Lakes Express 18.06.2018. Not quite exactly the same combo. 45212 i.l.o. 44871. Black 5 certainly in front, though. Personal opinion, but somehow this looked just right for this pairing. Gloriously hot blue sky summer morning at Rugby. Memorable also for chance encounter with Bulleid Pacific returning from Merchant 28 "Cornishman" excursion preceding day. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable moment in time.

I've seen a shot of 60103 crossing the border over the Tamar at Saltash with a 47 tucked inside. Gave me flashbacks to this summer and the extended fire risk period *shudders*

Confirmed. 47.760 is not at the rear of 1Z72. It is tucked in behind Scotsman.

    Possible problem with 60103? <BJ>

Trying to piece together today's RTT movements around Plymouth etc

5Z71 Newton Abbot Hackney Yard to Plymouth- 47760 ECS (coaching stock for tour)
0Z71 Plymouth to Plymouth - was this just 47760 running around the carriages or something else?
5Z72 Laira to Plymouth - Was this just 60103 or was 37669 also involved with this movement?
0Z72 Plymouth to Plymouth - I assume this is 60103 sorting out her position re: 47760 and the carriages ? (in fact 0Z71 and 0Z72 seem to overlap on timings)
    1Z72 Plymouth to Penzance - 60103 + 47760 (inside)

Seems a tad complicated (but then I don't know the rail layout around Plymouth

    Similarly at Penzance
5Z73 Penzance to Penzance via Slopers Siding - complete train?
0Z74 Slopers Siding to Slopers Siding - timing fits inside when 5z73 is stationary so I guess this may be 47760 relocating onto the other end of the coaches but then what is happening with 60103 ?
1Z73 Penzance to Penzance - 47760 with the railtour How does 60103 get back to Plymouth (or is 0Z74 actually 60103 relocating to the rear of the carriages to be on the back of 1Z73)?

Back at Plymouth there is then
    0Z76 Plymouth to Plymouth
0Z75 Laira to Plymouth - is this 37669? (note: 0Z76 and 0Z75 also overlap on timings)
    1Z75 Plymouth to Par - 60103 + ?
    1Z76 Par to Plymouth - ? + 60103 (on rear)?
5Z76 Plymouth to Newton Abott Hackney Yard - ? ECS
    5Z77 Plymouth to Laira - 60103 + ?

Scotsman was towards the front of the train from Plymouth to Penzance. If it had stayed attached to the stock it would already be at the rear of the train for the 1Z73 return. <BJ>

I went to see this at Respryn Bridge, near Lanhydrock, along with a considerable number of others.

There was much surprise that the diesel was tucked in between Scotsmans tender and the coaching stock. Many of us felt that, if it had been in the usual tail-gunner position, the return diesel-hauled service back to Plymouth could be carried out without the need for any loco repositioning.

I am clearly missing something; maybe someone can explain it.

Right place for the steeper Cornish Banks. Too heavy a load for a Class 7. Would also allow the crews to counter any adhesion issues.
